:oops: Decided I'd check the front pads- only one problem : do the chrome plastic caps that fit around the free wheeling hub assembly just pull off? Otherwise there isn't enough clearance to undo the wheel nuts....

I tried to lever them off without much success.

Damn the last owner who kept the factory owners manual :mad:

Yes, they just pull off, both front and rear. You may have to spray a bit of WD40 or the like, then prise them off with a screwdriver closest to the wheel.

I actually looked through the tool kit (which I thought was complete until you posted that pic :shock: ) and couldn't find a tool to do it with. My kit contains all of five tools, but I guess I'm lucky to have it at all!

I got one side off without too many hassles. Like I thought the pads have only got about 3mm left on them.

You wouldn't happen to have the correct torque for the wheel nuts in that golden owners manual, please? Some gorilla had over tightened them, so I've put anti seize on there and might as well do them to the correct torque too.

Tightening Torque:
9 - 12 kg-m
(65 - 87 ft-lb, 88.2 - 117.6 N-m)

After during 1.000 km (600miles), check
to see that the wheel lug nuts are tight.

If ya decide to keep your standard rims, next time I'm in Adelaide I'll give you my Cap Removing Tool.....and some other one's that you're missing if I dont need them.

My Feroza is hardly standard anymore !! :twisted:

I'm originally from Adelaide, parents still live there, so I make the trip a few times each year.

Personally, change your rims....the standard are alright...BUT........

Have ya seen what Colin from Ireland has got.....they look fantastic 8)

I'll definitely take up the offer of the tools if you don't want them. I ended up using one of those right angle screwdrivers to get the caps off, it worked reasonably well. A normal flat bladed screwdriver just butchered the wheel and cap....

I know what you mean about the standard rims, but it is a second vehicle- so justifying money for alloys is a bit difficult. I'd rather throw the money at a decent exhaust and K&N air filter when I've got some spare. :)

Just don't do up those nuts too tight...for example a 110kg guy standing on the bar to tighten...took me all day to replace the bolt I sheared off :lol:

It took all 70 odd kilos of me straining/standing on a wheel brace to undo the front nuts..... that same 110 kilo person must have been standing on them to do them up! :)

I've made myself a tool to get the caps off now too- figured I'd better keep something in the vehicle incase I get a flat in the middle of nowhere.

You could always try a hammer, they work well at removing the dinky chrome centre caps. Oh, and try a piece of pipe on your wheel brace. The extra leverage works well for tightening/loosening wheel nuts. I use my highlift handle.
