toyota front axle
using all toyota parts, what front end would you build.
I have the front diff out my car at the moment and am thinking of building something more custom and stronger before i reassemble it.
At this point in time i am thinking bracing, HZJ cv similar to the core units, 100's brakes and calipers and air locker. Basically keeping it same width as the IFS rear without going to the cost or width of 80 axles. I do realise that there isnt a large increase in strength but i have never really had a problem with axles just the cv's.
An input advice?

HZJ75 is the same width as a hilux. Thats why i never bothered to fit the one i had.
I wouldnt use anything other than a hilux axle. They are everywhere and are cheap. Most times you do a CV it will total the axle as well. Personaly i dont beleive the extra width is needed. I even removed my 30mm wheel spacers from the front for the XRCC event at offroad expo. The rig steered a little better and i didnt notice any stability issues.

i think you misunderstood, i was going to use all hilux, then machine an IFS style hub spacer to take 100s brakes, and then machine the lip of the ZJ cv's like core does. using all hilux in the other places.

nar its too wide, after searching pirate and looking at width i think they are too wide. Also, they only run a hilux ctr and i can justify the extra money for one. If i was going to do this i would build custom tubes that use hilux/ZJ cv's and then 80's inners. this would keep the cost of cv's down when they brake and the cv's are more readily available.
try to find a fulltime 4x4 cv that isnt rooted.

Why would you do this that only makes it exactly the same size as a hilux CV. The Star,Balls and Cage are axactly the same.

looking at cv's today it would allow the wall of the cv to retain alittle more thinkness.

RUFF wrote:It cant be thicker. As i said the internals are the same size and as it is now a hilux CV only just fits into the bell on the flat sides so if it was larger the bell would then need to be modified which when fitting the CORE CVs this is not needed.
Machining/clearancing of your knuckles is needed with CORE CVs. They are a newish model 75series with the outer edges of the bell machined to fit.

Go the 78 series front end width works out to be within 10mm of the IFS rear . 78's have 80/100 size swivels and if you want is i did the job on a hilux fitted late 80 swivels brakes and hubs to retain the six stud hub. Did a IFS to Coil conv at the same time . Used all 78 chassis/suspention mounts and the job looks factory and is heaps stronger. The truck has a 3.0LT turbo intercooled donk, locker's 4.3 gears cruiser rear diff centre and runs 35 pedee's and copes heaps no drama's.

i wouldnt even consider this an option, i can get the complete front for less than half what a normal person would pay but wouldnt swap it due to the low quanity and high prices that parts pull.

I'll hold you to that BJ..................
I haven't busted a Mitsu front CV or the 8" HP front diff with the Detroit with 34"s and thats plenty of full noise in reverse up inclines (you've seen how we drive).
If the Toyo 8" HP lets go on me I'll be really pissed.
We have had a few Cruisers in the club grenade front diffs all were full noise reversing up hills with the front locker engaged.
I think in a heavy, powerful Cruiser it's probably on the limit but a Hilux, Bundera or lighter vehicle they should be fine.
You don't here of Bundy's grenading their front diffs.
