Yes you need an engineers, and I'm pretty sure you will need to have the pollution gear set up as per the car the motor came from...
the pollution set up is something that someone else told me it was as the vehicle it was going INTO..
thank you (still confussed)

To be clearer as I understand it and as I have been told. What I'm doing with my Chev conversion 1980 (I think motor) into a 1983 Patrol, I have to comply with the Pollution laws for my vehicle cos it is new than the engine.
For you cos you are running a motor newer than the vehicle, you have to comply with the pollution laws for the engine. I don't envy you, have an '82 XE Falcon, the hoses under the bonnet are scary
The other option is to run straight gas, as you then don't need all the pollution crap. I may go this way with mine, haven't totally decided yet.
Hope that helps

Thanks for the info Dave I think the same on that..i will turn it to straight gas.. ..the fuel tank in it is a long range tank home made one but no gauge...which to me is a great pis* off....(i would sooner change it to a gas tank)..i dont mind doing an engineers as i sort of expected it..there is an engineer this way that LOVES the old g60s and he thinks it wont be a problem.. go gas mate it would be better..if your worried about range put another tank in... good luck with your conversion too..what size chev are you thinking 350??

Yeah i'll probably run dual fuel for a while, the mixer and converter I have now will be ok for the V8. As for size it ain't gonna be some little 350, oh no 400 cubes all the way babee!! I actually have an '81 Patrol parked in Dad's front yard with the V8 and 5 speed conversion in it. I just have to pull it out and drop it in mine, then sort out the A/F and P/S

400
Dont put a 400 in it.
go 350, 383 or 427
All in ballpark, but wont be a "relative"pig like the 400.
no chevy engine is a pig, but the 400 is not very popular.
even go 454, hmm i might be selling of my 454, i wanto go 502 , or i may put that in something else.. DUH, deceisions decisions.
dont like the smallblocks in patrols, to light, wheelstands too EASY!

I'll stick with the 400 for now, basically cos I have it and it runs really well. I think it would be a fair effort to wheelstand the MK, especially considering it is a LWB

well if you already have it, its a different story.
ehehehehe yeah it would be a big ask to wheelstand the LWB thats for sure!

Engineers? Why? If you are not making structural changes to the car, and use an engine with similar capacity and output, what is the engineer looking at?
I would hook up the pollution gear based on the engine (since it is the newer component) and take it down to rego. You may save yourself $500+.

I know I have to get an engineers for mine, as I'm going from a 2.8L 6 cylinder to a 6.5L V8

is that because your going from 6 to 8 cyl???
it is understanding...but i am going 6 to 6 cyl..

It was my understanding that you need it engineered because you are using an engine that didn't come out in that vehicle as standard...
i.e. I could replace the L28 with the P40 because it came out in my Patrol as an engine option, but it was never optioned with a Chev, likewise yours never came from the factory with a Ford motor.
