over reving / high idle

Post by hottiemonster »

this is for a Mav 92 tb42 carby if you dont know what i drive :D

i just washed the engine bay this morning, although i was a bit viscious with the hose the car wouldnt start which i expected that.

i got it started and it idles at 2400-2600 on both gas and petrol. i used to a screwdriver to adjust the idle but that did nothing.

so i took it for a major thrashing and kept stalling the car letting out the clutch slowly a few times with the brake on.

i got no ideas.

any help?

thanks

Sounds like the throttle cable is stuck or the hand throttle is on. Or a peice of crud in the trhottle linkages stopping it from closing onto the idle stop.

the hand trottle is not on, could it be the spring to the idle unit?

this problem was only sometimes before but recently not that high, before it was only 1600, but after i wash it, it is a lot higher.

Again, its probably the cable or linkages, happens to my LR then eventually goes back to normal...

Something must be sticking for it to happen, try lubing the cables or something!

spray the butterfly linkages with WD40 or similar !!
where the cable connects to the carby , there is a white plastic cam , check that it isnt stuck !!!

tb42 carbys have a baffel under the carby when old and fu** they wear and come loose which can jam the secondarys open a little. if not this check the secondary butterfly and see if it is closing properly.

Wriggle the hand throttle in and out a few times and drown the cables/linkages in WD40, not RP7 it leaves a gummy residue.
