have been haven problems with my temp and fuel gauge on my 3B diesel motor... both needles seem to fly up above there reading points as if it were reading overheating on the temp guage and over full on the fuel gauge...... and this was happenen erraticly now its happenen every day some times it does it slowly and it really gets my attention when you glance at the dash....... i have no idea what is goin on but the temp of the radiator seems to be fine when i go to inspect it...any ideas fellas? cos i got no farkin idea

hey jake ive heard of the this problem before but cant rember what it was. i had look in the wiring diagrams and the fuel gauge and water guage both a have the same wire for the ground. its a brown wire that ground some were under the right pillar. i would chase this wire first as this sound like it would case both to play up at the same time being on the one earth. if you like i culd try and scan the pages for you to look if you would like. chris

somebody will know what it's called, but there is a unit at the back of the dash that is connected to both of these and causes this. sorry cant think of the name for it, too much grog and fourby drivin at the weekend. if it comes to me I'll let ya know.
a thread about this exact thing was created bout 6 months ago. My middy, and at least two others i know have this problem other than those mentioned in the thread. I haven't yet found or heard of a solution, although there are a few suggestions.
I used to worry about it, but now if the temp guage is high and it matches the fuel guage i don't worry. The misses doesn't care, she doesn't look at them anyway
I have a 17 years old LJ73 which sometimes makes the same trouble as you described it above.
It especially happens, when air humidity is high, and some folks from here believe to know that the fuel sensor makes some ground shortage. It also could be the radiator coolant sensor, or both of it.
However, it won´t harm your rig. And with high possibility, you won´t find the reason - I tried so for over one year togehter with others.

Jake that is usually the contacts behind the instrument cluster.
Just take it out clean up the contacts in the plugs ,should take someone like you 10 mins.
