who makes coilovers and what sort of dollars am i looking at. i like the look of the dobbin engineering ones but at $850 a pop thats really a bit more then i want to spend.
also has anyone had any luck gettin them engineered in queensland, will talk to the engineer next week when he gets back from holiday.

I looked into Coil over a fair bit! 
The Race Runners are very flash and i think would be worth what you pay! However the cost to get Springs is the HUGE cost!! Especially if you don't get it right the first time!
The rancho ones i don't think they are woth that sort of money, maybe for general 4 wheeling they may be ok but for RockDriving i think the Shaft size is a major issue (thin and weak) the rancho is a SHOCK, it was never really designed to take the forces involved with a coil over set up!!
The Race runners have a Beefy 22mm solid shaft and are set up to take the abuse!!!!!

Check out the AUS shock coil overs they are made of offroad racing buggies but with 10" to 14" travel they might be ok for a 4b aswell

Only problem with the ones for the buggys is that they would be pretty light wouldnt they. So the valveing would be up the shit.
Isnt that the problem some people had with ranchos. They brought the shock for the open/closed length, but the valving was designed for a car half the weight.

Normally i'm a fairly strong advocate for not using rancho's in a coilover application, having had experience in that area.... but i have to say i would definatly look at dobbins if i was after a cheaper alternative to conventional coilovers.
The misconception that people have about the coilover being weak because the shock it is built around isn't designed to have the weight of a truck on it, is wrong. The rancho shock merely sits in a cradle, is sleeved to prevent damage from coil contact, and has new eyes with orbital style joints top and bottom. The shock certianly isn't designed to support a truck, but this cradle is. It has the springs mounted off it, which are captured top and bottom [i think]. I'm sure professor could post up a few pics when the attachment function is back up and running. I would say the only downside to these is their weight, having to construct such a cradle / mounting system for the springs results in lots more weight, not that this matters to many.

or twice the weight >>>> the ranchos in my zook are out of an F250.

lots of offroad guys use the ausshock. it takes the punishment dished out on dirt tracks so they should handle 4wd's strength wise
plus they are australian and cheaper than all the other brands listed above
