Clutch problems

Well after driving home and leaving the car overnight i get into the MQ and the cluch doesnt want to engage (drive) i look at the fork which is controlled by the slave cylinder/arm and i can move it backwards and forwards with no resistance. I can but the car in gear with no release of the cluch with the engine runing, is it possible my pressure plate fell apart (there was no bad noises). I have been playing with cars most of my life and have never seen or heard something like this any ideas

had a similar prob on a car and it was the pressure plate.
i changed from first to second and lost all drive...no sign of a problem beforehand. :cry:

thanks guys i asumed it was that even if its not its a real pain in the ass to take the gearbox out i hear so i will replace it anyway, how often do you guys do clutches i hear 4x4ing reduces there life dramaticly

probably easier to take out the motor than the g'box/transfer..... they weigh a heap and are not easy to do by yourself.

If ya gunna drop the g'box then use an engine crane through the passengers door or get atleast 4 strong mates to help !

I have had GQ stuff up after a big hose out due to water/mud contamination, and had it recover again with more hosing out, had to hose it out everyday for a week after one mud run, I the same clutch do everything from slipping, not disengaging, squarking during gear changes for 2 months, and still be working fine after 18 months more use, had some weird crap markings on the pressure plate though.

So just be double sure it's really dead.

I agree with Rainbow Warrior. We had a Jeep do the same thing in the bush and it was dirt caught in the Pressure plate and packed hard by centrifugal force. We cleaned it out through the inspectionplate using a hacksaw blade (Trained experts, don't try this at home). It's easy if you know what your doing.
This got us going and he hasn't had a problem since, and this thing is powered by a 350 Chevy.

i dont think the deisel mq patrol (5 speed) has a inspection plate, does anyone no ive look at it but its so caked in dirt its hard to tell

GEARBOX IS FUCKING HEAVY.... Not a 1 person job.

or get use of a workshop. Or pay someone to do it for ya.



I did something similar, got stuck in a mud hole, filled the bellhousing with mud, and it siezed the clutch. GO in with a hose, cleaned it out, but it burned it out. So got a new one put on by SEQLD 4x4 (sean calcino).

Cut an inspection plate in. Thats how the Jeep got one, just cover it with some sheet metal, 4 of 3/16 or 5mm drilled and tapped holes sealed with Silicon and domed allen head screws. Voila, one inspection hole. Be very carefull cutting it though.

well the gearbox is now out, wasnt to hard to get it out getting it back in may be a different story. Cluch ended up being ok, pressure plate was jamed full of mud at end of fingers, pressure plate could do with replacing due to real bad where on fingers at least half way through. Make sure you guys all check the top seal on the box You dont want to have this problem

I pulled out the rubber fork boot and stuck the hose in it till it overflowed with it idling in neutral.
