1HDT problems

Post by gerg »

considering the purchase of a early 80 series (1990) with 1HDT. Heard from various sources that these can be prone to problems particularly big end bearings. Does anyone have any experiences/feedback about this? If so, are these issues with early models only or 1HDT in general? Are there tell tale signs that I should be looking for?

Greg we have one at work at the moment. The bloke was just driving along & started to rattle. Did NO 5 bigend bearing. Would Recommend changing oil every 5000km.

Budget $500 for a new set of beariings first off. Cheap insurance done every 100k kms. With these motors, servicing is everything, if it has no history, consider a pump and injecter service at 2k aswell. Otherwise, they are a very strong performer, and return 10km/l on the highway.

thanks for the feedback. Decided to go for it. Planning to do the bearings this weekend before giving it a run to Melbourne late next week. It looks and drives great, can't wait to get it off the bitumen... :D
