superior shackles

superior shackles
These are being fitted to the rear of my HJ60 in the not too distant future...But what I want to ask is (because I would love to fit them to the front as well) can the problems to the steering caused by these shackles be fixed. I can only imagine how far these shackles would throw out the geometry of the steering components.

I have spoken to the guys who make the climax shackle and they said that they do not reccomend them on the front (so I would be guessing that superiors are the same)...but I just had the thought you guys might of known a way around the steering implications. You never know until you ask afterall.
P.S I seen all you guys in Ormeau the other weekend...I was one of the guys fanging around on a trail bike!

I have filmed some rigs with them fitted on the front, some worked, some didn't, a lot depended on whether they were fitted with a track bar to prevent axle wrap. Just fit them to the rear and see how they go, the rear is uncomplicated, the front gets a little more complex as you have already mentioned, especially as you have shackles at the front.
Built, not bought.
Fitting these to the front of a 60 series is a lot easier than fitting them to the front of a hilux as the 60 allready has cross over steering which means the added flex will have less ill-effect on the steering. I beleive Mick recomends a Track bar and also a limiting strap for these to work correctly.
I have had a good look at both the Climax and the Superior Shackle and although i personaly would not run either of them in my rig. I think the Superior is the better designe of the two as it works in all directions and can still be locked so it works as a standard shackle.

Yep it is totally up to you if you want to run em on the front. Rear (as mentioned) is easy as long as you listen to everyone saying you will need a track bar. Are you modifying the spring pack also?????
I think if you are going to get the whole deal like longer springs etc I would prolly spend your $ on getting the packs modified and just run extended on front and get the superior shackles for the rear. Mick makes some really good quality extended shackles that seem to work well also.
Ruff was right when he said a 60/75/73 as standard with the shackles at the front has a lot less problem running superiors than a hilux does when the shackles are at the rear of the pack.
It is more to do with drive shaft angles than anything else really.
If a hilux has standard (j-arm) steering this can become a prob also i think.

thanks for the tips guys...they are muchly appreciated...but due to a little lack of mechanical knowledge a few things are still a little unclear (hey...I can drive em...just dont ask me the techie stuff!)
When you mention track bar...firstly, what is it and secondly, what does it do? At first I got the impression I only needed this if I fitted the shackles to the front...but then someone mentioned fitting it to the rear as well...So do I need it solely on the front or front and rear.
thanks again guys...this place is a wealth of knowledge for me mechanically wise.
