60 box into 40

Post by Raymond Spackman »

H i guys. I was wondering if a 4 0r 5 speed box & transfer out of a diesel 60 series will bolt up to a 82 model fj40 petrol bellhousing & if the clutch is the same. A friend just got the 82 fj40 without a box & I know of a diesel 60 box & transfer for $200 so if it fits he can get it going cheap. thanks

there is most likely a info on this already, so searching might be the way to go.

only thing i can think of is input shaft length. but im a little fuzzy on where this applies.

I think the box should bolt up ok (2f is suposed to have the same shaft and bolt paterns as all other 6 cyl pet and diesel, but not sure if this is true for the very new ones) but i am not sure if the length of a 5spd would be an issue. I think the cross member need's to be moded and the prop shaft length and aingle may be an issue (they are bloody short as is)

weres BJ when you need him???

yeah i think it was only the BJ box's input length that was different.

crossmembers are the same for 4 and 5 speeds.

theres 3 inches difference in length between 4 and 5 speeds.

I thought the cross members were diferent but you are prob right.

so If we are the cruiser god's we think we are all he should have to do is shorten the rear prop shaft and lenghten the frount.

hang on a 5spd and transfer case for $200. nah it wont go, tell me where the bloke who is trying to rip you off with this overpriced POS lives and i will go around and kick his arse ;)
