Hi Frank,

already booked in at local ARB, only prob was that they said "sorry no front locker exists for Pajeros". I said "mate , you hade better believe it" & gave them the part number.

They were lost for words.

Seems like there is a mistake in ARB catalog. It lists 3.0 auto but doesn't mention 2.5TD as incompatible. Also it doesn't include Gen 1 but seems the consensus was it's going to work for 3.0L ones. Or they know something we don't. As far as I can tell the 3.0 auto difference is smaller crownwheel, different pinion and different spline count on CV joint (25 v 28 ). Is it possible that ARB actually fits smaller crown wheel (same inner diameter, different outer. Can anybody get measurements) only inner CV joint must be changed.

What is it costing most people for this. Being that I currently have a blue tongue, I assume the purchase of the ARB compressor is mandatory even though I have a compressor.

So what's the total cost?

Not having a diff lock (but I've got an ARB compressor, if that helps :) ) take this with a grain of salt. I believe diff locks can work with any compressor, it's just a matter of ensuring a reserve of compressed air is available, in the correct pressure range.

Your Blue Tongue should be capable of the correct pressure, but it needs to be permanently installed in the vehicle (duh!), and probably needs a reservoir and a cut-out switch to maintain the right pressure. These things are available in lots of places, so you shouldn't need to buy the ARB compressor to make a locker work.

Cheers,

Scott

Bugger!

The Front locker has a problem with the side gears

something about thrust tolerances or something

they've been delayed about 2-3 weeks

poop

Jmeager,

the air tank that NJ SWB mentioned must have the capability for the ARB air valves to switch the locker in /out - not hard just a 1/4" gas thread for it to screw into.

BTW the air tank wouldn't need to be big the ARB one is only about 3/4 of a litre.

Thanks AdomW. I understand how it works. I suppose I was prodding the people who know these things whether ARB will support a setup without their compressor. I would expect not, which is fair.
It is just a shame when you have outlayed $300+ already, and you don't need two .....

Anyhow, it's not like it's a problem. I don't have $2K for one thing, and I cannot see the point of making it go further into the beyond when the other paj I travel with (my father in laws) is stock and will never be modded. No point if I can get through and they can't! ho hum......

Isn't it a shame that you can't choose your father in law in the same way the you chose your wife!!

ARB will support air lockers without their compressor as the lockers come with all the bits that I mentioned - all you need outside that is to make sure your compressor feeds a small tank with an electrical 85psi cut in and 100psi cut out and room to install the air valves
