Dicky temp sender?

Post by ytt105 »

I'm having some funny things happen with my 86 EFI V8 Rangie.
The temp guage goes to the red very quickly and then settles back to about half way, but the radiator is still completely cold. This is in Canberra and its quite chilly these mornings. I don't think its overheating at all.
Things i've done in the last couple of weeks is 'rod out' the radiator, (over 40% blocked), new thermostat, (it works the same as the old one I took out), adjust timing, (no difference), change coolant.
The temp sender is about 4 months old, but I think it may be dicky, (I did get the beast really hot a couple of months ago while coming out of Bendethra, hence the 'rodding' of the radiator.)
I'm trying to buy a new sender unit, but the dealer want's $75 and I know I only paid about $20 for the one that's in it but I can't remember what car I asked for from AutoPro. Possibly a Holden, does anyone know what model.
