building a rockcrawler diff poll

Post by bru21 »

i am building my car up for rockcrawling. gq extra cab. currently 38.5 claws, duel transfer comming, wizard 7 inch 5 link a - frame, etc.

i am about to buy my front locker and was wondering weather to take the oppertunity to go for gu diffs for width, strength, gearing. would anyone know:
the strength benefit,
the possibility of fitting a matching ratio gu crown wheel pinion to my already arb locked gq rear (4.2 petrol)
expected cost

cheers

the width increase in negligible, the strength increase is well worth it. with the front anyway..

GU front H233 has bigger CV's for strength same diff/pinion/axles as GQ and I am sure this has been discussed here before are not interchangable in a GQ housing. Someone will pipe up if I am wrong.

Rear isn't whether or not GU/GQ but if it is a H233 or H260. H260 Large in the wagon has and axle size simular to early Dana 80's and is 37 spline. There is another H260 out of the Leaf GU utes that are 34 spline and there is no ARB locker app for them.

H260 Large in the GU range are rarer than the H233 and they are found by chance in all the range except 2.8's and in various years. I am not sure if they are still used on the production line now but they can be found.

I wonder if it is an item that can be sourced straight from Nissan?

whats your rear diff ratio?
you should be able to get the correct ratio front diff out of a gu

if you look at your transaxle code the last 2 numbers = the diff ratio
EG: 35 = 3.545, 39 = 3.900, 41 = 4.111, 43 = 4.375, 46 = 4.625
all the above are available in the GU front diff.

Hi There .I have a GU 4.5 petrol wagon and have recently been through the gearing delemer. I realy wanted 4.6 gears so i could run a 35 or bigger all the time (no more tyre swaps) plus the look factor.
but after extensive homework done by PROCOMP i was original going for Nissan factory Crownwheel & pinion in the rear(for long durabilaty)and cheapo in the front. But the plan shot out the window when we found out after talking with nissan that there was not a factory crownwheel&pinoin in 4.6 available for a GU petrol, so i was not prepaired to put in cheapo in the rear. So i shelved that idea and went Rockhoppers instead. So i am still swapping wheels.

I you are looking to go GU diffs for your Beast, go GU deisel rear then you can put in the tuff factory Nissan ratios

Get a Locker for a GU the only diffrence is there is four short shafts that hold the Star Gears in GU ,an in GQ two short shafts an one long ,if you go GUlocker they inter change but GQ locker into GU you have to cut 17 mm off the end of the axle if you dont get the shaft removed an two short shafts put in, Go to high steer arm on front diff as i had troubles with mine until i changed it.
