I've had my Feroza for about 14 months. I am indeed only a youngin! Its only done about 113000 kms but, i try and drive it like a sports car so i don't know how much longer the donk is going to last.
Mmm, how hard do you recon it would be to put a Rocky NV 2.8 Turbo Diesel into a feroza. he he he.

I have owned my Rocky since Sep/99. When I bought it, the truck had 78,000km on it and it now has 189,772km on it. I have broken and replaced just about every major component in the steering, drive line and body of the vehicle and it has been treated HARD, as I am sure any of the old WARFS guys will tell you. Still it keeps on going and although it has been relegated to the occassional short trip and rubbish hauling duties, the thought of selling it, actually caused me some distress the other day. I hate it, hate how hard it is to get bits and how something is always going wrong, but then again things always go wrong with all fourbies. I think it is all the fond memories that I have of the Mudwhumper that makes me hang on, though I usually grumble and cite financial reasons, just so I don't ruin my hard man image...
Soon the truck will be sold though, probably to some person who will not have as much fun in it as I did. My reasons for selling are simple:
Soon to be expanding the family again with another bub, as well as the comfort factor. The Rocky is very agricultural and my back, which is FUBAR from years of chasing and wrestling offenders to the ground has demanded something more comfortable.
I think it happens to all Feroza/Rocky owners eventually, although they have fun in their trucks, they get a yearning for another truck because of space issues, comfort issues, ease of getting parts/fixing something or they just want something they can enter into comps. Most of the old WARFS NSW crew have moved on:
Mike: Surf.
Gil: Surf (though he still has his Rocky, sitting out the back dejectedly.)
Leon: Surf
(Is there a pattern here)
Rod: Patrol.
Troy: Patrol.
Mad Dog: Cruiser.
Mark: Cruiser.
Even Murray has a 40 now.
They all speak fondly of their Daihatsu's and many would have bought another if Daihatsu had not gone soft and brought out the shitful Terios and gone limp. Still I am another thinking about getting rid of the truck, what am I going to get next?
I say: 100 series, Patrol GU, Hilux SR5.
She says: Pajero, SURF.
My money is on a Tojo though.
Cheers,
Muddy.

Yes, space is the major issue and I can relate to people upgrading (sorry I mean changing vehicles!) for that reason.
I'm lucky enough that my Feroza is a second vehicle, so space isn't a major consideration. How much more space is there in the last model Rocky RV Turbo's that had the longer wheelbase?

When you factor in the following:
- Extra door (especially relevant if you are intending to chuck a ruggie into a capsule/booster seat.)
- Boot space for pram's and assorted other baby needs.
- Back seat (I currently don't have mine in)
The quite a bit on a larger vehicle such as a Landcruiser/Patrol.

I would probably not use roof racks cause the missus is only about five foot and the roofline is a bit taller than her. Could you imagine the whining that would go on about how high she would have to go to get a pram down...kidding me. It is just easier to get a 100 series and be done with the whole issue then.
Besides, sometimes kids give you leverage...'yes sweety, we need the fridge to keep the kids stuff safe, we also need that 9,000lbs winch in case we have to winch ourselves out of trouble. What do you mean no? Does the safety of the squirts mean so little to you...et cetera et cetera et cetera.'

As an owner of a three door please allow me to empathise (I hate sympathy - if you want "sympathy", look in the dictionary - somewhere between "shit" and "syphillis" )
I am deluding myself that if I upgrade (?!?) I'll only start carrying lots of stuff I don't really need.
What? Denial? That's a river in Egypt!

Lacking space in a Rocky???? Get creative. To make more space in the Rocky, I purpose built a cargo barrier/shelf in the rear. The shelf sits on a frame that is bolted to the side panels of the cargo area. There are even threaded holes there, covered with plastic blanking plugs. The shelf sits about 75mm below the height of the bottom of the resin top. The cargo barrier is bolted on top of this. I can now fill the rear area, floor to roof, with gear. Removing the roof lining gives more space again.
By modifying both fridges to increase airflow, I can pack gear all round them, and still have them work very efficently. We have done a 4 week trip to Cape Melville, for 4 people, with all our gear packed in the back, except a spare tyre carcass on a pair of roof bars, and a gas cylinder on a carrier on the rear.
Its true what someone said, the more space you have, the more shit you carry. I now carry a small generator, lights, chairs, tables, ect which I wouldnt have bothered with when I owned my old Suzi. The bueaty of all this is, my 2 daughters are now mid and early teens, a few more years and they will have their own cars, and then the back seat becomes more space again. So I'll be able to carry even more shit again.

Mud makes excellent toothpaste.
hmmm... all this talk about space.... space space space.... get a trailer! i love my rocky, and i honestly cannot see myself selling it but i am afraid that i may have to unless i am able to land a decent paying job and be able to pay for parts years down the road. if i can, i'll prolly upgrade to another truck but keep my rocky and see about making it into a hardcore 4by... but thats all in the future.. for right now, i'm just looking forward to getting her running again so i can go kick some jeep's asses...
