Fuel tank in the rear?

Has anyone ever mounted their stock fuel tank in the rear?
Could there be any problems associated with doing this?

I’m sick of bashing the tank on stuff. It currently holds only 32 litres and has a hole in it (Selleys Knead It steel is great stuff). But I do have another tank in good condition ready to go in. But I’m afraid that it will meet a similar fate to my last tank unless it has a very serious bash plate (more weight and slightly less clearance). I also realise that moving the tank to this position will shift my COG slightly up, but I figure that the clearance befits may out weight the slightly large change of going for a roll.

Here’s a photo I found. I was thinking of doing the same.

I put a tank from an old nissan 260c in the floor of my lwb. many tanks from older cars are floor mounted in the boot, worth a look round the wreckers

That's a thought. i just might do that next time i'm near somewhere with a wreckers.
Thinking about it my family has an old corona with the fuel tank in the boot, i might just steal it

I like the plastic fuel tanks, perfectly square, easy to mount/adapt to EFI at a later date.

Its really a cheap LR tank if you look at that way

I have two factory tanks for mine but neither will go in the back floor, its just easier to mount the racing cell style (especially sunk in through the flor)

i've mounted one of my stock tanks in the rear, for a bit of a trail run, and to get me out of trouble for a while. Currently with the stock tank vapour build up within the soft top is a small issuse,(that is if there is any vapour leak, which there shouldn't be). I may just have to run with the back of the top removed more often. The only other concern that was rasied by my father when he was examining my set up was the issuse of the fuel tank being within the cabin area in the event of an accident. But then who is really going to rear end a very slow zook that doesn't stop all that fast.

thats why mines mounted forward, safety but also better hill climbing balance... Big steve is right, the fuel cell is brilliant, but costs a bit more than the $60 total I spent on fitting mine. ( is 60L also ) christover
