i assume it is petrol yeah?

well i had a similar problem with mine and what i did was replace (i think) the leads to no. 3 and no.4 on the dizzy and turn the key, there is a loud bang, stop straight away and then swap the leads to the correct position.

this solved it on my GQ but i am not sure whether it is the right way to fix it or not. anyhow, it worked lol

maybe someone else has a better idea than this :?:

Does it drive ok or is it just at idle? mine did exactly the same thing where it would drive okish, but die at idle and it would backfire as well. It was the carby. They get crap in the idle jets. Try crossing over two leads & backfire thru the carby ie start it and rev it back off until it nearly dies & rev it again and get it to backfire. Don't stand near the carby as it makes a big bang. Worked for me until i had the carby rebuilt. Just make sure you take the top off the air cleaner first.............. If you don't can i come around & watch

mine was running like crap and it was because the choke was jammed on so it was continuously backfiring and carrying on. We just did a temporary fix of jamming the choke off with cable ties. Runs perfect now

mine did the same - new filter, cleaned the water out of the fuel, fixed it. it would only idle with thw hand control set to 1500rpm die any lesser revs.
the nissan carbs block easily, pain in the arse, happened for a 3rd time and i thought stuff it. ripped the carb off and fuel injected it using falcon ea parts cost $500 all up. carbs suck, especially thirsty nissan ones.

cheers

How capable are you technically.
XF Fairmont MPI could be adapted on complete with computor.
Purchase the complete injection assy from a later GQ wreck and fit this.
The effort is justified by the result, the INJ do go better.

Why not efi off one of the cars that came out with the L series: 280ZX, Skyline L24 injected etc...

Could be much easier, althoguht the EFI system is getting pretty old now on these beasts.
