The issue about sticking to the course is difficult. At the time I didn't even consider it an issue. I suppose being first up means that you don't have a status quo to copy. I think the responsibility rests with the officials so that unless it is roped off or your are informed otherwise, you use the available track to your best advantage. But as Greg said, it wasn't our intention.......

Dn't get me wrong guys,i'm not having a go at anyone,I'm only saying what i think would make a more challenging course.
And MMM i'm not having a go at you either,you do a great job and it's a credit to you.If i could maybe suggest that you maybe have a few more officials there and you all take notes on the penalties and at the end compare them,that way there are no errors.I know this would take a little longer,but it would be a way of making sure no one gets there nose out of place with being told they got that cone penalty when they thought they got through clean.
As for the number of courses,it would be great to see some more,but unless we start driving at 7am sharp and finish at dark then it makes it very hard.
As i said at the start i'm not trying to piss anyone off or have a go at anyone this is just my opinion...

Jamie, I'm not sitting there with you watching the vids so I may be talking out of my arse here, but if your concern is inconsistancy in cone penalties then here's what I reckon.

I dont think the answer is to have more officials. I would be telling my spotter to really be on the ball with where the vehicle is in regard to the cones. That's his responsibility -- a part of his job -- and that way you should know exactly what cone is out of play and which ones remain live. If a cone is hit and both spotter and driver didn't realise, thats bad teamwork or bad luck. If the official sees a cone touched/hit the spotter should have seen it as well.

If your concern is about back-up penalties or other penalties , then I don't know what the answer is as this would be harder for the spotter to keep account of those.

I reckon 2 officials should be heaps to score one course.

There were two officials scoring - MMM and old mate!! I thought the scoring was the best yet - especially on the Sunday coursers once old mate had a bit more experience under his belt. (Sorry but I carnt bemember old mates name :? )

Hi, Jamie I like the comments, it gives me something to work on. Sam my offsider was Alex (he is always there when work is to be done). Alex is normally stuck in the Xtreme Tent, but he got a promotion???? for the weekend & I must agree with you Sam when he new what was wanted he was also making calls to be confirmed by me.

I think 2 officials out there is enough otherwise it will get a bit more dangerous by not being able to get out of the way.

Yes more courses or bonus gates would be great, but it is finding the area to do them without having to move camp.

Anyway until Round 3

I know that we ventured of the track at times, but only as a last resort. If you want this event to continue to grow then i think you must be a little leniant(spelling?)

Mine was probably the least nimble rig there, its long, wide and a heavy pile of poo, and if you drive it too hard it will break. The tracks particularly on day 2 were very tight with the gate positions, we arnt all driving small, light buggies that excell in these tight tight tracks. if you want to draw competitors then i think you must be alittle leniant here or make the track more friendly to the bigger rigs.

Dean tried many times to pull the rig around whilst i was in 2 wheel drive but it dit a whole lot of f'all. It should be noted to that if (as we had to acouple of times) go off course we gained many penalties for backing and filling to line up so we are not likely to knock any one of the top spot by doing this it was just our only means of getting through the gates.

Jamie imagine trying to drive your 80's through day 2 and keeping exactly to the track. i doubt that it would happen.

This is a good event because of the laid back attitude of all invlved, lets not wreck it by making it more strict and fussy than it has to be remember we are not playing for a big winners cheque but just for fun.

Just my thoughts any way.

I agree with you there,All i was saying was maybe make the course wider so the larger rigs like yours can drive.
These are just some ideas i have to try and make the comp more exciting and challenging.
If i have offended anyone in anyway i appoligise as i was not aiming my thoughts at anyone.

Hi, Jamie dont say sorry to anyone, constructive comments are what I want, this is what is happening. You will know all about it when the comments are not construtive.

BUT JUST REMEMBER WHO SET UP THAT COURSE (hee,hee,hee) could have been a bit tight on a few of the gates (still a great course, congrats to competitors :armsup: :armsup: )

Just a bit more about Course 4. As Dave & Greg were the first up on that course, and I was the whistle blower, I allowed it, if they had been second in & the first competitor had stayed on the rocks they would not have been allowed to do it. Also being the first it set the ground rules for that gate, so everyone had the same chance to do that, if you did not make that manover (spelling?) to make it eaiser to get through that gate (has been allowed once) bad move on that teams part. The idea is to drive the course per guidelines set down & WIN!!!!



Anyway have a great weekend, drive carefully & keep smiling :) :) :) it may get worse ( :cry: :cry: :cry: ).

Having not competed in XRCC yet, but wanting to, I think the way dave is looking at the scoring is great!!!!!!!!!!! if you don`t drive all the stages then you shouldn`t win nor have the ability to catchup. Thats one thing that pisses me off with winch challenges, you can have somebody that does 9 out of 12 stages super super fast and they finish higer on list than somebody that does all 12 fast (instead of super super fast)



Anyway congrats to beebee what a top effort :armsup:
and congrats to everybody that competed, even more so to those of you who drove up from NSW, being from Albury I know how hard it is just to get to Sydney for events let alone Queensland.

I plan on competing in XRCC but it want be for about another 2 or 3 years before I can affrod to go that far :cry:

dont worry about offending anyone, shit happens, didnt really think u where pointing the finger @ any one. @ the time the 4th course was being designed i thought f--ck this is gonna be way tight for my school bus, but thats just part of it isnt it so we just stood back and let the track unfold.

It may have been suggested previously but why not count the points from 3 of the 4 stages thus allowing for some bad luck but still requiring consistancy.

Could work - would make people drive less consertatively which would be a good thing. Probably unecessary though....I think that there just needs to be a better balance to the DNF penalities. Like I said before, giving sombody 400 penalities for a DNF makes no sence when people complete the course with 15 penalities. May as well give them 10000 points for the DNF

I think the scoring system we are going to use in Put Up or Shut Up(same scoring as the US Calrocs series) will work much better. Basically they have a maxium penality score of 40 points - keeps everything nice and tight scoring wise.

Looking at the individual course scores something like this would work nicely (although could set the max score at 50 because our courses are fairly long)

Only downside to this is it doesent seperate sombody that DNFs at the first gate or DNFs at the last gate - both will recieve the maximum 40 points. In the US they also have progress points of 1 point per gate which seperates them. This came about after the first UROC competition this year where they ran longer courses (like ours - although now they are back to short courses) If we did this then sombody that DNFs at the first gate gets the maxium 40 and sombody that DNF at the 10th gate gets 30 (40 minus 10 progress points). Something like this would work.

I like the idea of progress points, gives lesser teams the chance to accumulate some points and rewards progress. It may even inspire greater competition by way of competitors slagging each other by comparing/bragging about what gate they made it to.

I agree with Sam here. The point system needs to keep the competition 'alive' for everyone till the end of play. Otherwise people won't put on as good a show and try as hard as they can if they see there is no way in hell they can win.

I have to agree with what everyone has had to say!

We want the people who drive well WIN and those that don't drive well deserve NOT to win!

However!

Like Sam has said a simple DNF can kill the whole event!

For example!

Stage one i completed 3 gates (still had 8 gates to go)before i diffed out and got stuck on a little rock, up to that point where i got stuck i had not hit anything and i had only 1 reverse. At the same point most others had already racked up 5 or 6 reverses!!

So a bit of bad luck, mis-judgement, poor driving what ever you want to call it now had me at least 400 points behind first place!!!!!

The second stage i thought well if i have a good clean run i may catch a few points up. Well i hit one Gate and had ONE reverse (11 points in total). Yes i made ground on first place, a whopping 3 (three) points!!!!! :lol:

Even with two stage left to go, and even if i drove all the stages without getting any penelties i still would have been 300 points behind first!!

The Comp was great fun, i don't know if this will get looked at but either way i am not to concerned, next time i will be more careful and play it safe on the little stuff!

Thanks for explaining that to me Sam, I forgot all about how in XRCC you start of with points and then loose them by making it through the gates. :oops:

Are the current XRCC rules listed/posted somewhere? I need to memorise them.

shane i reconed it sucked ;) na just kiddin , no it was pretty good and the scores were close .i was pretty sure i had 3rd stiched up but wes in sam's lockless just got me by a few points { not sure how many} but it was close even tho i got threw more gates on the last corse before it blew the cv's . pretty good scoring. :)
