MQ Max Lift B4 Big $$$

Post by Marz »

Hey all,

Im still doing some reasearch for my upcoming patrol, im planning do buy a SWB MQ and iv been looking at lift for the 4wd.

So far all the places that i have called are offering only 2" Spring lift, thats cool. I also wanted to go 2" Body Lift as most people say this will be enough to get 35's under. Is that true or will i get some guard rubbing when out 4wd'in?

Also i was looking at extended shackles to go with the above mods but some people say that anything above the 4" lift mark, ill have to extend lines and could effect some driveline componets? and also that extended shackles can effect deparute angles?

If 2" spring and 2" body is enuf for 35's with full capibilites thats good....if not what else can i do??

Thanks

Marz

Mine has the 2'' body & 2" spring and i run 285/75's. i wouldn't run a 35" as i think the gearing isn't low enough, 35's wouldn't rub as long as you got the toyota offset rims to keep the tyre away from the chassis as mine rub slightly at the back under flex, but then again my tyres have chunky sidewalls so it could just be them. At the front you shouldn't have any trouble though.
I'll sell you mine if u want only a tiny $50k so i can buy a GU. :D

2" springs and 2" body will be enough, gearing will be OK. I had 35s on mine with the L28 and 4 speed and it was slow on road but fine in low range.

mate u will fit 35's with the mods listed but as said u will have almost nothing in the guards and u will rub on the rear at full flex.
Extended shackles affect your diff castor angles on the driveshaft. it will be fine as long as u dont get carried away with really long shackles other wise u will only have to get castor correction plates anyway so then soa could be an option.

So is it possible that i can do 2" spring 2" body & 2" Shackle, without the castor correct plates??

If not are those plates costly to supply and install?

ive got 1 inch longer shackles in the front and didnt affect a thing, so u may get away with it.
Have u thought about reverse shackes?

put ur spring shackles on the back of the front spring back insted of the front and put the shackles on the front of the rear spring pack insted of the rear.

if that makes sence..........

basically, standard packs and shackles just put em in a difference place. swap em.

You mean Caster correction wedges. These go inbetween you diif and spring pack and rotate the diff depending on which side you have them in and how far they are incerted as the have a taper on them. Personally I would steer clear from them as the will just cause grief with U-bolts becoming loose.

I had 35's on my MQ with 2" suspension and 2" body with std 4.625 diffs and hardly noticed any diffrence between them and 33's apart from the fact that it was alot more capable :D Later on I went 2" schakel extention, thus giving me 1" more clearance... but the mounts did rip off the chassis out bush one day so make sure you reinforce them!

Don't be scared of 35's, I went from 31's-33's because i though the gearing would be crap but it was a wise move in the end to up size that further

No offence but spring over only needed if ya wanna look like the others, All thats needed is Soft springs , shackles to lift to approx three inch above standard, done after springs settled, cut front shock mounts of and re-attach with longer shocks as with the rear and then the 2" body blocks. Slight rubbing on the front lip of the front guard only with 2" cut from rear of front guard. Center of gravity stays good and will satistfy the hard core guys without scraping ya roof on bridges.
