Mick, sussed out bending my arms once before. many say yes doit many say no dont doit. i cant see a problem with doing it strength wise and im going to doit sometime down the track. i think id still put the double cardin in anyway. Tomb raider, that does look like the scorpion kit is it?

Yes a fair bit of it is Equipe4x4 (who Scorpion copy) from France.
You'll notice I didnt buy the shocks or springs, preferring to use remote canister shocks and springs custom made to my spec.
The main reason for the purchase of these parts is more testing than anything else. Although the rear arms look to be very well made. But this will remain to be seen.
It more an ongoing developement and testing phase with the Defender. Plus the re-aligned rear arms are legal and I'm trying for maximum go whilst remaining totally legal... I'm looking at making an engineered set of front arms as opposed to realigning the factory ones this will ensure insurance remains intact as opposed to messing with the factory cheesey metal arms.
In relation to the front towers, rear shock mounts and bump stops, based on my measurements the small amount of uptravel lost will be negligable (less than 1") compared to the 3-4" of extra down travel gained with my spring and shock combo.
I wont know how well it performs till I test it... Might be a waste of time but at least I'm going to try it.

Maybe a decent post explaining peoples reasoning behind the bagging of the kit would be more beneficial to the list
The Ibex at last years Outback certainly did well running the Equipe 4x4 gear and that was all go! No show!

as well as guys like hsv rangie, sam strangerover, ranuki
legal/shmegal none of the scorpion gear meets adr's, it would need to be individually engineered like all custom/aftermarket peices.
not many people in the uk or france drive all the type of terrain we do constantly in australia.
i know they have an advantage in that a whole kit can be purchased but i prefer to make it myself or buy locally, especially when the gear is better quality.

I agree, I'm not arguing the point on that....
But how do you *know* how it performs unless you try it???
Thats what I'm trying to find out
Once I know how it performs I can look at other changes/modifications or upgrades to improve the performance of the vehicle
As for retained springs and controlled body roll the springs retained at both ends are a great idea. I'm just trying them to see how it goes!!!!
And RTA here says that all Scorp/Equipe stuff is ADR compliant and has
pre-approved it all. (Helps to know an RTA engineer too )
And as for legal / smegal well I believe it can be done, and shows a more thorough apporach to engineering a vehicle.
I want my insurance to be valid at all times, I dont want to be busted during a road-side blitz...
Anyone can throw something together and bolt it on... Making it legal is another challenge in itself. This is my goal

legal smegal, if your springs can become untrapped/loose then that is illegal. this is a blanket rule that arose because of springs falling/flying out. does not matter if they are retained bottom.

I bought a Scorpion evo kit for my 90, replaced my OME/rangie spares/koni combo and it has worked out very well - plus I have got it legal! (certification plate attached to the bulkhead and confirmation from the insurer that everything is covered!)
Dunno why people don't like the Scorpion stuff, it's seems pretty well built and it actually works quite well. Having thrashed it a few times now I'm pretty happy with it and haven't had any problems. But unless people have actually used a product themselves I figure their opinion is just that - opinion not facts. People like bagging Safarigard, scorpion etc but don't seem to have any of that kit themselves...
Undoubtably building your own stuff is best though, as long as you post pics!

Just measured my 110. Center of wheel to wheel arc lip 600mm front, 610mm rear. Kings Springs 480mm free length springs front, OME 981's with 50mm spacer rear. Bilstein 7100 12" travel short body remote canister front w Disco II towers, same Bilstein but 14" rear w custom mount. I'm really pleased with the damping.
Some tweaks still required; front dislocation cones, adjustable rose jointed Panhard to re-center front axle, and rear sway bar to force front to flex earlier and improve road manners. And yes, install Sam's holy bushes as replacement for shot drilled ones.
Currently rides on Michelin XZL 9.00x16's.

A poser shot from past Sat. I ran out of ramp before I ran out of suspension travel. About 4" left at the bumpstops. Enough traction to move the ramp if tried to go further.

Good question. I only use the ramp for reference, I haven't bothered to calculate RTI. My guess is 20 degrees, though. But there is more flex in the truck, just maxed out the ramp.
I'm planning for a roll bar in the rear, cones up front and an adjustable panhard rod to re-center the front axle. But even without these mods, I find the truck very driveable, and the Bilstein 7100's cancel out most of the scary rolls.

I got them used, but with hardly any loss of thread, from Vass in the UK.
GBP 65 per tyre, plus an arm and a leg in shipping.
It seems they mostly get smaller dimensions, but they had a set of five when I mailed them.

Thanks Drew yeah there 34x10.5x15 dont no if they rub havent been able to flex it up yet due to brake lines but they do rub on the radius arms will adjust my steering stops on the weekend and get the brakelines done next week.Hows your rig coming along.

im going to get a set of those very soon! hope they dont rub to much. Are those disco rims? How do you find the JT's on road?
my trucks still comming along. just fiited a 100L fridge freezer where the middle seats used to be brillant for keeping the drinks cold when 4wding. also got a new roof rack, solar panels and a BIG ( 100 Kg ) battery for the rear. after fitting this all up thye rear is sitting a little lower now but the she rides better then a limo on the road with the extra weight. going to suss out some new rear springs from rangie spares to lift the rear back up again. apart from that just trying to find time to get to realy use it! good to see more defender pics on this thread!

Drew the rims are just some old 15x7 sunraysias that were on my rangie.
The JT's are pretty freakin noisy(just turn the radio up)but they havent affected the handling of the truck.I will be running a set of 235 85 on the road.One thing i must say it takes a bit to get the thing up and moving but you get that i guess.Did you get your rear trailing arms made up yet if so can you please give me some contact details and a price.

Havent got the trailing arms yet. superior engineering in brisbane ( makers of those drop shackels ) said that they would make them up one weekend for me using 5010 steel i think. he priced me aprox 250 bucks for both of them he told me they would be bullet proof. this was like 6 months ago. he was mking shock tower spaces as well but i havent herd back from him. i rang him a few times to see how he was going but never herd back. i know he was realy busy working on some other trucks. maybe ill go and see him sometime soon about them again. On the other hand i might just strengthen the ones ive got with a bit of angle on there underside.
