Mechanical Oil Pressure Gauge

Post by GQAndrew »

I bought a Mechanical Oil Pressure Gauge, as I am sick of the factory Nissan one!! (See previous posts). The sender for the crappy electric one is $130 from Nissan, but I picked up a mechanical one from REPCO for about $57.

I tested out the gauge by just connecting it in the engine bay and all works fine, however when running it into the cabin, is there a need to insulate the copper pressure line. I noticed already that it gets bloody hot, which is obvious as it is filled when engine oil.

I can just imagine it melting anything that it touches throughout the engine bay, firewall and dash, but at the same time believe it will melt any kind of insulation placed around the wire.

Any advice on this?

Cheers

Ive got an autometer mechanical oil pressure gauge in mine, it comes with a nylon like line, I just slid it inside a length of 'smc' plastic air line about 6mm OD, i did that mainly to avoid it rubbing through on anything and causing a big mess, i just used some heat shrink tube on each end to seal it up.

I don't think heat is a big drama, as the oil shouldn't get super hot - most things in the engine bay are designed to cope with this kind of heat, and the plastic air line ive used doesn't show any heat related damage so far.

Personally i'd be more worried about it rubbing through on something?

Agree with Patroler, protect the line from any damage.
Built, not bought.
