Torsion and sway bars on a pathy

Post by X-R-Cist »

Hi guys, new to the forum.
Just after some advice on removing the swaybar on a 90 pathy, has anyone done this? and felt any difference on/off road?

also adjusting the torsion bars, how would i go about this?
I want to make the front wheels drop as much as possible, i hear this was one way of doing it.

cheers

Rear bar you can do without I'm sure, but the front one does have a pretty noticeable effect. I'd be a little concerned about handling in abrupt situations without it. As such I got rid of my rear one years ago on my Xterra (not all that different than the Pathfinder really) and not even my wife noticed. I had the front off/disconnected a few times and I definitely noticed a difference but I could live with it, the wife was not comfortable though. I had to remove my front bar for good a few months ago though after the mounts became hopelessly smashed from off-road abuse (one was long dead for some time already) and both my wife and I have adapted. I've not really had to make much adjustment, just don't toss it into corners as hard as I used to.

As for the torsion bar adjustment, this is for the (W)D22 platform, but it's no different for the old (W)D21 Pathfinder/pickup platform:

If it is IFS I would not remove the front. Set it up for quick disconnect and only remove when you need max wheel travel. I watched a guy in a Hilux IFS roll his truck in March and nearly total the rig. He also bashed his head and scared the shiat out of his passengers. It was a sudden turn at about 25km's per hour on a dirt/gravel road. The front sway bar being out definately contributed to him rolling it.
