broken longfields
Broke my new longfield today NOT HAPPY JAN
We broke one in a vehicle that weighs aprox 1500kg just above idle in less than 5min of driving and it had no lockers. The opposite one lasted maybe 15min. This is the second generation Long with the small Ring.
One of my original style longs Broke a few weeks ago after aprox 2years of abuse.
I know a few others that have not had a great run with anything other than the original style longfield.

To be fair though, this was when the wheel was bound up, full lock, and booted in reverse with the power from a V8. most treated CV's would have broken.
Built, not bought.

I think you will find when it broke it was in a straight line going forward and was not being booted at all. But yes it was bound.

I just bought 2 new style Longs .
Wont be in for a couple of months yet though.
I hope they can handle the mighty power of a 2.8 diesel lux .
Paul.
all comes back to tyre size, driving style and how well setup your front end is.

RUFF wrote:Just keep in mind the CVs i have seen broken were in situations that most people will never get in. The average guy is going to have trouble breaking a stock CV. We are breaking these in competition use on rocks that are bigger than the average small car.
Absolutely right, bigger tyres, more awkward positions, better traction surfaces and mo' power. Most people would get a lifetime of normal wheeling from a treated CV, in a locked front end. I still remember the first day when you had your longs, that day in the creek. Full noise, full lock both sides AND bouncing. Back in the day...

It was a TC problem not a CV. We have not pulled the CVs after this round yet to inspect them but they are holding up to a lot of abuse. These are a treated CV of our own that will soon be available from Haultech Engineering.
Awesome. Will be good to have an affordable, locally available CV in the market.
Built, not bought.
had a good look at the cv today and it twisted off the shaft about 75mm back from the circlip groove but not straight through but on about a 45 degree angle but it just shattered into lots of little pieces . Will post pics tomorrow . I rang the states and talked to bobby long today and had words to him because thats were i got em from and he has sent another one over free of charge
