Hi All,
I have 2 questions. Firstly, I am about to buy a "Jap" motor to replace my RS 4D55T. Any advice on suppliers, or anything in general on these engnes. I'd love to go brand new, but I have a tight budget.
Secondly, does anyone make fibre-glass replacement panels for Pajero's? I don't need any yet, but noticed that you can just about buy a whole Landcruiser in glass...but can't see anything for Pajero's.
I look forward to hearing from fellow Paj' lovers.
Michael.

She's old but I love my Paj'....'84, diesel wagon. Had her nearly 10 years, 300 000+K's.
Actually you can buy a crate 2.5 TD from a engine import place here in Vic for $3500 brand new with turbo and everything hanging off the motor including the clutch fan. It's advertised in that 4x4 Supermarket mag that comes out every month. I would guess that's not too much dearer than a low km Jap import anyway. These motors are bought from Hyundai who bought all the tooling from Mitsu and still put these motors in the Hyundai Galloper (a sort of early Paj copy) sold in overseas markets.
As for the glass panels I've only ever seen them available off the shelf ex Japan from Mitsu 4x4 specialist shops. I also think they are available from Ralliart in Sydney but most likely only for the Gen 3 Evo models now and you wouldn't want to know the price anyway. Anything Ralliart is MEGA $$$
The ones I've seen in Oz on rally versions are all custom for that specific vehicle and usually have big arse guards and air intakes/scoops etc not standard replacements.

I just luv my "clacker Jabber"
G'day Michael
Great to hear that someone else out there loves their '84 TD Paj as much as I do. I don't think I could ever get rid of mine (even though the 4d55T is a tad weak)
Best advice I can give is to go with the newbie like Bitsamissin suggests. I wish I'd done that, coz I got a rebuild quote that started out cheaper, but at the end of a long, painful process, the cost had doubled. A lot of that had to do with Mitsu parts just being so bloody expensive.
Good luck.

Hi Spank...read your post a bit late, already odered the jap motor. I'll just have to see how it goes.
Tell me, have you had trouble with your harmonic balancer at all? I wonder if it might be a weak spot with the 4D55t's...we looked at one before we got our wagon and found the bolt had been loose and damaged the end of the crankshaft, we didn't buy that one. Ours was find until last year when the balancer worked itself loose and the key chewed out nearly a quarter of the balancer's bore - it was still going though! After replacing it, the bolt worked loose a few times but without damage. I have heard of another 1 or 2 stories about these as well over the years.
Mine had started leaking diesel from the injector pump. I had that rebuilt but made a hash of the timing resulting in one R/S motor....live and learn hey?
Nice to hear from you,
Michael
