Are Mq and GQ bullbars interchangable.

Post by shortgq »

Hi guys,
I have the opportunity to swap bars from an MQ to a GQ and am wondering if the mounting width is the same and whether there is a great difference in the front width of the vehicles. Is it only the flared guards that are wider. Also do you know if the GQ transfer case has provision for PTO attachments such as a winch.

Thanks guys

GQ and MQ chassis widths are different. You will have to change the mounts to fit a GQ bar.

THink a few GQ transfers do have provisions for PTO winches - as the import GQ's came with them. May be worth lookin them up.

Why not go electric? Why PTO?

I own both a mq and gq at the moment. The mq i have had for years and she is starting to show her age. I recently bought gq shortie about a month ago. Now i was still driving the mq and as (luck??) should have it i drove it up the end of a falcon. Now the old bar was steel 4 poster and did a heap of damage to the falcon, as the old mq had the steel bar plus a pto winch on the front. The insurance company has replaced the bar with a brand spankin new alloy bar(sweet) worth about 1500 dollars specially tailored for the pto winch. It was made as a one of. Now having just got the mq back i reckon the new bar would look sweet on the gq. However the bar protrudes forward for the pto to fit and the bar is mounted to the pto winch frame and the pto winch frame to the chassis of the mq. So i was wondering whwther the new bar and winch would transfer to the gq, although i guess i would need a different drive system for the winch from the gq transfer case. Thats cool, i reckon a pto winch is better then electric winch for my purposes, especially when friends elctrics have failed where the pto keeps on pulling. I could get a different pto winch mount made up which would suit the gq chassis and new bar, but only if there is a pto provision in the transfer case, and the bar is wide enough to suit the front of the gq. What do u guys reckon.

Thanks guys.

ps. I will be selling the mq soon, so this might be a bargain for someone if the bar stays on. But i'd rather it on the gq..

Been there, measured that. Didn't quite fit.

Ended up buying an MQ bar for my MQ and quite happy.

Why not grab a transfer case out of a PTO'd imported GQ and hook up your PTO winch to a newer bar and leave the current bar on the MQ (that is if you're desperate to take the PTO off and put it on your GQ otherwise just get electric)

I'm almost certain that only the early GQ's and later grey imports had PTO provisions in their transfers'. What year model are we talking? Better yet get the box number of the case and check and it may have been a 2nd hand box in there if you haven't owned it from new

Pto output on gearbox on GQ. Not there at all on some later models.
