hi guys ive got a 2.4 t/d surf and my mechanic says its got low compression on all 4 cylinders so it needs to be reconditioned new rings the question is would it be worth getting that done or better to do an engine swap? someting like a 1uz-fe

i figure either way its gonna cost me a bit. knowing my luck the motor will be completly farked :x

even if its completely stuffed you should be able to pick up a reconditioned one for less than 4 grand, you will be hard pressed doing a conversion for 4 grand

chances are if you do a full rebuild it will cost ya $2-$3grand (if block is alright) (which it should be)

2-3k thats not too bad then i thought a rebuild was about 5k

it depends what is involved and how much you do yourself. If you do the pump and injectors at the same time then it can get costly. I would look into more boost and a better exhaust at the same time.
