Hey Frank,

read a few posts about the horrendous job it is to get Pajero transfer cases out.

One Mitsu dealer wanted to charge one guy $1000!!!

why is it such a big job, I have pulled out my old Series 2 Landie gearbox & case several times. Its a bugger but not impossible.

cheers

Ok Frank,

I'll be patient - my wallet will force me to anyway

May I ask what ratio is being considered - I'd like to have at least 2 if not three gears lower than 1st High

I thought the gears were going to give improvements for low range only.. It would be sweet if they were made with say a 10% high range reduction. Like the series 1 rockhopper for suzukis.

I didn't mean to suggset that the High range set would be lower anly that the low range be low enough so that 1st, 2nd, and hopefully 3rd Low would all be lower than 1st high

'cause at the moment with only 1:1.9 t/case 2nd low is the same as 1st high

No it will only be low range reduction only.
We achieved 2.85:1 for the 2.6 / 3.0 V6 t/cases so we won't know until we get the case and measure how much room there is available.

So if I understand this right - the more room in the T/case around the driven gear the lower you will make the ratio??

Yes to a point, basically the input gear is reduced in size and the low range gear is increased in size the idler gear stays pretty much the same size. It will depend on 2 factors :-
How much meat is on the idler gear ?
How much room around the low range gear ?
We were basically limited by the size of the idler gear.
3.15:1 was the next module but it would have left the idler gear too thin/weak in our opinion so we stuck with 2.85:1 so as not to compromise strength.
