i have fitted Toyota 60 series powersteering boxes to leaf sprung stage 1
v8 landy and my own hybrid series 2 . You need wheel rims with a greater offset ( forward control rims) otherwise the tire fouls on the steering box at full lock and full articulation. I use a clamp on mount for the steering box so there is no drilling or welding to the chassis rail required. The toyota box attaches to the outer wall of the chassis rail, whereas on a Rangey or Defender their box attaches to the inner wall of the chassis rail, so you may have to use a left hand drive Toy box in a Right hand drive Rover or vice versa. Or a 75 series mounted well forward. I found that the steering was a bit too light for me even with Q78 Swampers on portals, so I haven't connected the powersteering pump to mine. They have both proven to be very troublfree.

So Bill, are you running a PAS steering box as a manual box?

I have heard of someone using a toyota cressida box as well, although the 60/80 series should be stronger.

Yes Ben, I am running it as a manual box. I may connect the pump as I get older . The stage one v8 is powered though. It seems to need it more than my vehicle. I think it is due to transmission windup when the centre difflock is engaged causing the front axle to wind on excessive caster angles which increases the self centreing effect.
The more positive axle location of my 3 link front end maintains caster better than leaf springs do. Bill.
