Electrical fault- Right indicator coming on with headlights

Post by Jimmy L »

I have an electical fault and was hoping someone here might suggest a solution.

When I turn the headlights on the right hand indicator light is turning itself on partially and permanently. There are too many wires and stuff for me to work it out I know it's very minor but could be unsafe when driving a night.

Any ideas before I get my sparky to look at it?

Thanks

Yes.........you have an Electrical Fault :finger:

It sounds like it's something in the Steering stem or Indicator stick, pull the cover off your steering stem and see if you can see any melted wires

Earthing problems can cause weird ass problems like that too.

Yep, those darn tricky earth faults tend to perform strange things. Sometimes the fault disappears temporarily with a firm thump in the general location of the problem.

Not that I condone feroza bashing, but it might at least help localise the fault. If you dont like fooling around with multimeters and wiring looms, autoelec is probably a good place to start.

When you say they come on 'partially' I assume you mean dimly.

Do the indicators work normally without the headlights on?
Has the car had any custom wiring (alarms, radio, etc.) that might patch into cables around the steering stem?

The sparky I use is real decent, has a freaky talant for electrical things. It will take him 5 minutes to fix. I just don't feel like driving to Capalaba after work.
Thanks

First guess would be the right hand light is earthing via the indicator bulb - don't know how or why. Try removing that indicator bulb and see if anything else stops working.

Fixed- It was the earthing problem on the right indicator. When the dudes replaced the bullbar after being welded and raised must have wired it up wrong.
