Hi just bought ourselves a '90 model 2.8L t/d rocky - we haven't bought her home yet as she is waiting on a roadworthy.
Any way
What is the fuel economy like out of these things and how far do they actually go offroad? Ours has 'sports Afield' or something like that written on it. What does this actually mean if anything!!
It is as stock as a rock (but in mint condition) so any mod suggestions are welcome, particularly about more suspension travel.
Also where is the best place to get spares for these things(we are in Brisbane)?
If they are as good as they sound hopefully we won't need them!!!
Thought you guys may be able to help.
We are hoping the rocky will be better than the clapped out MQ patrol we owned previously - the suspension in it was shocking - it had 12 leaves in the back and was a swb = really bad ride.

bull.... welcome! be sure to post in the daihatsu owner section. you'll have fun with your rocky, i can promise you that! most of the people on here own either us rocky's (like me) or ferozas. i believe theres a few people that own the aussie rocky though. layto's one of them.... theres also a few others. take a browse through the FAQ section, you'll find plenty of info. also browse through the hatsu owner section and you'll find some great pics of people's rigs. enjoy!

i usta own a 93 2.8td, was an awesome ride. if you get rancho shocks, don't end up sideways on a wet road with the dial set to 'soft', or it might lay down for a rest
usta get 10L/100kms, not bad mileage, didn't change much if i was 4bying or doing highways. they go pretty well offroad stock, one of best things u can do is get some mud tyres. sports afield is a sports pack, better seats and a few bling things like that, interior stuff only i think.
the reason i bought a zook after flopping the rocky is cos they're cheaper and can mod easier. there's not a lot of after market stuff available for the rocky. i put king springs (30mm lift) under mine with rancho 9000x shocks, made for a flexy ride... needed more height tho, extended shackles would help a bit.
what i'd do: mud tyres, sliders (protect your sills), learn to drive it they go pretty hard standard. after driving for a while u'll know how far u wanna go... if you want a beast, get a spring over axle conversion done, instant 4-5" lift
PM layton ("lay80n" on here), his had custom springs when he bought it, he may be able to tell you what they were.
i miss the diesel, it was an awesome engine, just a bit of a pig to start on an early morning. drive it and love it mate, and welcome!!

WE PICK UP THE ROCKY TOMMORROW!!!
Thanks I am feeling a bit more confident now, I was starting to doubt how good the rocky was going to be.
We actually went out to buy a zook but after test driving them and realising how uncomfortable and slow they were the rocky seemed like a much better buy.
We are going to try to make the double island trip but still don't know what is happening.
Will try to get some pics asap
