Crap Feroza exhaust manifolds...

Crap Feroza exhaust manifolds...
This is what I found yesterday when I removed the cover over the exhaust manifold :
Now I know why so many Ferozas have got extractors!
So what are the best extractors to get? MRT have got theirs (i'm not a big MRT fan) and so have this place http://www.axtturbo.com.au/HBHeaders.html. Are there any other options?
Also what happens to the coolant pipe that bolts onto the standard manifold- do the extractors have mounting points for this? Do MRT's also come with the exhaust heat wrap as shown on their site (see below)?

Thanks for the pic Andy. Do the Genies have mounting points for the coolant pipe?- it's hard to tell from the pic. I take it they are not stainless steel going by the look of them?
Dooie, I was hoping for an improvement in fuel economy! Last tank (first since I bought the Feroza) I only got 12l/100km for city driving. Most of that was pretty easy going too...
I found some more info on the Hot Bits headers- they appear to be made from stainless steel. See the link here- http://www.speedworks.com.my/EXHAUST%20EXTRACTORS.htm. I actually Emailed the local company in Melbourne that sells them last week for a price (before I even knew about the cracks), but they haven't bothered replying.
MRT have got the full two inch mandrel system listed for $650- that's probably going to be hard to beat.

I swear by the MRT extractors, they are awesome, great sound and great performance.
NOTE: If you put these on, it's a good idea to reset the computer. Just unplug your car battery for an hour or so, then when you start driving again the computer will regather all the exhaust/fuel mixture information again. This should help with fuel economy.
Murcod the MRT job comes with the heat wrap/flexible section.

Thanks for all the info.
I E-mailed Genie (after finally finding their site) and they want $300 includning freight- quote: "It is a try-y design and high-temp-coated offering corrosion resistance and mandrel bent to reduce tube crushing."
Still no reply from Hot Bits..
The Feroza is still under the three month warranty too. I should take it back to the yard and see what they say- no doubt they will just try to weld it.

Some more info for other people's reference (...or maybe I just like talking to myself?? )
I've had some negative feedback about the MRT extractors- some people in the States have had them develop holes prematurely.
I've been told Lukey make some as well. A site in NZ has them listed for around AUS$270, I'm making enquiries locally for a price- they're made by Tenneco (Walker) locally here in SA. They sound good as they are coated with paint that can withstand 700 degrees C and have a two year warranty.
The interesting part is the warranty is voided if Thermotec type wrap is used on them!

That included : Luckey performance headers
Flex joint
Hi flow cat
Full 2 1/4 inch sports exhaust
Hi James,
I take it the Lukeys don't have the flex section built in like the other brands then? Also, do you know if they are mandrel bent?
I tried Emailing Tenneco, who make Lukey, with the above questions but haven't had a response..... and of course nobody has the headers to suit a Feroza in stock, so it's a case of order them and hope for the best
David
I never asked about that but obviously the flex joint is seperate and i'm not sure about them being mandrel bent.
I was told that if i wanted the whole system that i only needed 2 left them know a day or 2 in advance.

Just an update on the headers- Lukey aren't mandrel bent, and don't have a flex section built in (like MRT's do) :(
Does anyone know if Genie have a flex section built in? I know they're mandrel bent....
Also, does the factory exhaust system have a flex join in it anywhere??? I assumed there was one at the base of the standard exhaust manifold (?)- I know there isn't one at either end of the cat as I had that out the other week. If there isn't one it might explain why the manifolds crack!

And indicators are always optional.
PS: No, I wasn't born here, just transferred with my job.
Indicators were an optional extra on my Feroza. I opted for the permanently activated horn myself...

Supposedly there have been some problems with the MRT extractors developing holes (or cracks ?) in them. The Lukey aren't mandrel bent, meaning they'll be more restrictive- I was quoted $160 for them a while back.
I have ordered the Hotbits ones- they are mandrel bent and $175. Don't know where you'd get them in the USA though??
David
did u order urs off the net or through a 4x4 shop? maybe u can order em for me.... lol... i'd be interested in workin somethin out.. i need to get my hands on somethin bad... i've pretty much got my exhaust system down.. i jus need new headers...

I run the full MRT exhaust on my rig. Never heard of anyone having problems with them and I certainly haven't had any issues. They have the flexy bit before the cat so it allows for plenty of movement and seems to stop all cracks occuring. The original exhaust I had on there cracked so I know Ferwoaza can do it to an exhaust

Some guys in the USA had problems with the holes- Kevin from WARFS was telling me about it. The flex is an excellent idea and I'll be getting a flex section added to mine when it gets done.
David
Yeah, some of the US guys have had problems with the MRT Extractors developing holes & cracks - never heard of an Oz problem though. My personal feeling is the more extremes of cold over there may cause a problem -
Anyway - I had the Genies on mine & never had a hassle with the extractors - but definitely get a Flex Joint fitted between whatever Extractors you get & the Cat - the Feroza engine really torques sideways, ripped my original Cat convertor in half Should hear a worked Feroza engine with straight out exhasut through extractors only - just like a rally car got some real good looks in the week or so it took me to get it replaced
Flex Joint, High Flow Cat & MRT back exhaust & never had another hassle.
Later - Mike H.

I bought the Lukey headers and am quite pleased with them. They certainly look mandrel bent to me! I should know something about mandrel bends and compression bends after my first round with the snorkle. I bought the Lukey's mainly for the price but also they have four into one primary tubes. This gives a little more low end torque over the four into two into one design. The longer primary tubes also have better scavenging of the exhaust. I researched header design extensivly as I was going to build my own.
PS Mike:
I got all of the three inch mandrel bends and a section of straight pipe for the snorkle. I had to mail order the bends and got the straight piece locally...someday soon.

I bought the genie 4/2/1 's cos I was under the impression that they were the ducks nuts of header design , something to do with letting the gases having time to escape or something , oh well , I've got them and I'm happy with them

Are you sure that's right? I thought it was the other way around 4-2-1 gives better low end torque and 4-1 gives top end power?
I've never actually seen the Lukey's, but from the pics I saw in their catalogue and the advice from the exhaust shop here, I was told they were crush bent. I Emailed Tenneco who make them asking the question, but never got an answer.
I decided to give the Hotbits a go- nobody else seems to have them and they are priced right. Just hanging out for them to arrive now.
