axles

Post by vrunner »

I don't want to highjack this thread but I'm in the process of putting GU axles under a lux using leaf springs not coils.

I read somewhere on here in the past about the dropped hanger Hypolux made for his rig and how he made it wider than standard to accept the Patrol axles. I've searched for the last 3 days to try and find that post but have been unable to locate it. does anyone know how much wider hypo's drop hanger is?

The attached image is of my Lux with the patrol axle sitting in front (and centeral). Both axles have the same tyres fitted so this may give you an indication of how much wider the GU axle is.

Thinks its 7.5" wider and the problem when runing front leafs is the perch has to be offset to the pumpkin which makes things difficult

out board the front springs, i am going with 80 series diffs and I left them at standard width

as you can see with the picture the perch is nearly on top of the diff - makes it hard yet not impossible to get u-bolts around

I'm trying to put 80 series under a lux and will be outboarding spring perches. Probably run a 2" drop hanger at front, IFS leaves but with centre hole 2" forward.

Due to the length of the spring I am pretty sure, but not certain, that the shackle end of the spring will still sit under chassis because of how the chassis is wider at this point. So there hopefully won't be any messy shackle mounts hanging off the side of the chassis, and simpler to make.

Engineer required me to outboard springs BTW.

diff

Hypolux

From you comment I take it that it was quite difficult to fit the axle using leafs. Was the end result worth it or would you go a 5 link if you did it again. Also, how much wider was your spring hanger than std?

wasnt difficult i just wish i didnt have 2 have the shackle mount under tha chassis but i got plans 2 change it...

i dont know anything bout link suspensions so i woodnt attempt a 5link + i dont like the feel of a coil front i am happy with the leaves..

and yes it was worth the extra effort 2 use leaves coz after a bit of sorting it woill b good

Thanks for the info Hypolux.

Is there anything that you can advise me to do or not to do as I'm starting this weekend to put the Patrol axles under the lux.

BTW I'm still trying to find out how much wider than std your hanger is. I've worked out that I need another 120mm in the width.
