Looking for a second 4b, soley for play.
Found an 1984 rangie with 5.0L EFI Holden installed 1998, full compliance.
Professional installation looks good ... air conditioning works, everything else connected up and looks smart. Duel fuel. Starts first turn on gas. Runs smoothly.
Q1: Does anyone have any ideas of the things I should look for coming specifically from the conversion ?
Q2: Interior very neat. Exterior only a few bumps. No obvious improvements (no lockers / maxis / springs). They're asking $9,000. If I can get it for $6K or $7K is it a good deal ?

Loanrangie - you're right ... maxi's. The box is Auto ... but I have a strong feeling it isn't standard. I'll have to get underneath and try and figure out what is going on (the seller doesn't have a clue). Regards.

check out the auto, what breed is it. what t/case is in it.
The conversion sounds ok .
what radiator was used.
get a list of the hoses and belts that were used in the conversion.
other than that it sounds ok to me.

Checked the radiator, and it was original. Also found evidence of overheating problems. The evidence was ... lots of receipts for dealing with overheating ... but none for solving the problem.
Apart from overheating, I also believe the engine was low in power. Running smoothly, but having difficulty with rice pudding skin.
Therefore - I'm not buying.
The next one, I'm sure, will be just right

I reckon it's still a good buy.
If the rad is original, I think that is the problem.
A 5L cast iron V8 generates a lot of heat.
If you buy it and follow Michael's lead by fitting a decent radiator and twin thermos, there shouldn't be a problem.
If there still is, then any DECENT radiator place could fault find it.

Don't mean to be a spoil sport, but I would steer clear of converted Rangies myself. Unless you know what you are doing, stick with the stock running gear and you won't go too much wrong (touch wood!!)
$9K is a bit too much for a 84. I paid that much for mine in 1998 when I had one and it came wiith a rear maxi-drive as well (which lives under Aquarangie as of 3 weeks ago!!)
Keep lookingm, be patient and the right Rangie will come up.

I agree, 9K is way too much.
But at 6-7 it's a good buy.
The Holden 5L puts out a lot of power and the driveline may not handle it.
But if overheating is the ONLY problem, than that SHOULD be easily solved.
A driveline upgrade can get expensive though!
