2 inch is fairly easy, 3 is not.

2 inch is bad for stress on body mounts, 3 is worse.

3inch lift

Post by big38l »

You would probably need a steering shaft extension aswell, otherwise you will pull the rag joint apart, but it a pretty easy thing to do as long as you take care. I did mine myself in the back yard with just a hi-lift jack ( not really recomended to do it that way though :) )

3''lift

Post by Webbie »

yep do it man its eeasy , ;) just look out far all the things that people have already said and get i think a power steer shaft as mine was to short as previously stated and the power steering shaft out of a 84-89 mod was longer.
just muy 2c worth
Lockers or Knockers ,both will make for fun.

For my 3" in the Surf I had to:
Install a 25mm steering shaft extender
Remove lower half of fan cowl
Root around with the gear shifters
Extend fuel filler
Undo wiring from the chassis that went to the body
Replace top radiator hose with a flexy
Body lift the spare wheel winder mech (under the arse)
Plus all the usuals like bar work, towbar etc

Mines dual cab. Eazy as mate.

I did a 3" lift on mine at home in the shed.

I havn't done anything mechanical before.

The kit came with all the lift blocks and longer bolts for them.
It also came with some radiator drop brackets and a steering extention.

The Hardest thing was getting the break lines to streach.
I put a V shaped bit of wood in between the metal lines where they pigtail and spaced them out vertically. 5 minutes work.

The tube from the fuel filler cap to the tank wasn't long enough.
SuperCheap auto had some for under $20.

The only other problem was my sidesteps caught on the body. I had to grind off maybe a cm.

Works like a lever. The further you have the weight from the mounting point the harder it will be on the bolts and chassis. ...or think about stilts, same principal.

Just think about it, the higher you go the more leverage there is. Think of it like useing a short spanner or a long one. This is just my thoughts on it, nothing more nothing less.

If you don't bend it 1,3 & 5th are up in you radio/dash.
You need to bend it towards the backseats.

Making the stick longer and bending it is the only real downside i've noticed with my lift.
The new longer throw between gears magnifies the ammount of play in the stick. When it's locked in a gear you can wobbel it left and right almost like it might be not be in a gear.

You could always do a drivetrain lift as well.
That solves shifter problems and gives a sheatload mor under belly clearance.
