A True Tech section for outerlimits ?
Hey guys,
I was wondering if the idea of having a true 'tech' section of outerlimits ,where users can submit Howto's with photos and step by steps etc. Basicly seperate from the forum.
possibly something like the tech section thats on.
http://www.aus300zx.com
I guess the question needs to be asked, would anyone on this forum want that sort of thing ?...I know it comes in very handy with my 300zx.
BTW, im happy to help out in creating something if needs be.
Thanks

Yep, similar sort of thing is a the top of this forum heading - FAQ. Anything that is good or frequently asked is placed in this section for quick reference. Welcome to submit any how tos, they will be placed in their appropriate section. Even though this was created more for the FAQ's, it's the next best thing to having nothing at all.
Built, not bought.

I guess when people do work on their rigs, they just have to take constant photos so they can write up the "how to".. a good example of this is zoltan making his bar:

I think it would be a PITA to have something like that.
Who is to say whether a piece of tech it correct or is it the best way to do a certain modification??? What if the piece of tech is totally crap and dangerous - we put it in the "real tech" page and everybody thinks its the best way to do something.
AH - I know a solution - what if we have a section at the bottom of the tech page that lets people attach their comments on how the setup worked for them - at least this way we can get some feedback on how good the tech is and then people can make better judgments based on more than one opinion. Yea - that will work.
And then we can split up the tech pages into different sections so the specific info is easier to fine and add a search engine. That would be ShortyIQ awesome.

but you're right, the info needs to be quality and correct, and also kept up to date, the best way to do this is to just search and bring the topic back to the front if you have questions or what to know how the mod turned out.
the only way i could see it happening properly would be to have a guy like billvista on pirate who spends aaaaaages researching and testing mods and components then writes up (and updates) very good articles........but who has the time and skill to volunteer to do this?

Going back to the original idea, I can see how it would be effective with a single make/model (300ZX), but I think it would not work as well with the multiple varieties of vehicles involved here.
Maybe a sub thread under each of the models, ie. Suzuki Talk and Suzuki Tech under the Suzuki heading that already exists??? (Similar to the way 4x4Wire does it.)

I dont see whats so difficult.....if your worried that people will take the Tech section as Gosbil just put a disclamier at the top.
In the forum theres problems of photos not lasting foreva, and searching for newbies can get confusing (Not really know what to search for). Also theres very rearly step by step guides.. I feel a tech section would solve this. Imagine a simple guide on something like a dizzy upgrade for a TB42 etc etc.
In regards to the variety of models problem. I think OL is more than likey 10 times the size of the 300zx forum, so really we would have 10 times the amount of input and be able to handle 10 times the amount of different cars (or even more)
Hey at the end of the day, I was just suggesting a way of having a simple system of common mods / fixes for the OL users. I just figured that this site was about people putting their idea's forward, so thats what I did. If its a crap idea ill build a bridge
PS. I am more than happy to help out with putting guides in a common format, etc.

My point was that there is too much diversity for only one "serious" tech/FAQ section, and it would need to be more brand specific to be useful, otherwise it is of no more use than the search function we have now.
Like this when you click on one of the brands.
