TB42 Drain plug

Hi guys,
Just bought ford maverick with TB42 and am replacing the coolant and installing new radiator as the existing coolant looks pretty cruddy. Naturally i have pulled the radiator out and let go most of the coolant. My question is, is it worth pulling the drain plug out of the block to release coolant left in the block. The motor has 240k on it and i am wondering whether it is truly beneficial. The other thing is i am guessing the plug is located on the left side of the block far back under the exhaust for number 6 cylinder, is this correct. My worry is i don't want to try to remove it, and find i break or strip the plug as it may never of been removed before. What do u guys think>>??

yeah, remove it, you'll be surprised how much more you will release, helps to flush out the motor better.

Take out the whole thing, not just the brass plug - brass plug may strip (head only)the part that threads into the block is steel, and a brass plug bolts into this fitting. Tapered fittings, just fit up with some PTFE tape.

yah remove it. access is between the chassis and gaurd in wheel arch, using a long extention bar, use a good 14mm socket. the plug is behind the exhaust engie pipe. use some sealant when refitting, you will be surprised what comes out, get the garden hose in the heater hose and back flush the hole system. cheers!

if you are that worried and don't own a 14mm socket/extension - a radiator shop will have a power flush machine which is the only way to completely remove all the flith......the garden hose unless attached to fire hydrant doesn't cut it use a radiator cleaner instead @ $10.

Not a big fan of the radiator cleaners, very caustic and may play havoc with the rubber seals on the water pump, although good for the metal surfaces etc. Jury is out.

i have used a radiator flush 2 times, 2 different cars and 2 times straight after flushing i have blown some sort of hose in the cooling system. I am not going to use them anymore. Must perish the rubber quite badly

Well its just odd I sold that cleaner for four years to the plebs who didn't want to pay for a flush and wanted a cheaper method but somehow they didn't have problems maybe the hoses needed to be replaced??
