LWB more stable offroad.
more LWB produced, so more of them around... Diesel Autos, Rare as rocking horse shit....
SWB Diesels rare as rockinghorse shit....
Most comp people are extending chassis to get to Mid Wheel Base, think Cheezy is adjustable, but stands at around 108in LWB is 118 ???
Shorties
My swb diesel is great, only prob being that packing for camping has now turned into an artform where as before i would throw it on the back of my lux and tie everything down. Maybe i should put my girlfriend on the roofrack so there's more room inside for stuff
an add on to what Bogged said....
The LWB will have the weight of the engine/tranny on the center of the frame/chassis in steep inclines and decents. This is better to keep the truck stable and the center of gravity low. this = more stable
The LWB will obviously be more work to drive and take more turns on tight narrow trails. It also has a worse high center point while the SWB will have a better high center point and easier to manuver on tight trails. The LWB is also obviously heavier so has to work harder and has a worse power to weight ratio.
IMHO, MWB is best!

I got a LWB, so I have a bias opinion.
Get anything... As long as it's a PATROL!

more stable on steep inclines .. rather than flippin back.. it'll hold a bit longer than a SWB.
downside of a LWB - rock step.. the swb will go over without smackin the sills/chassis... whereas the LWB due to its length - the front tyres already over the rock step and the rear tyres not yet gripped - means you'll be balancing on the step

I have a lwb mq patrol and big red toy has a swb mq patrol, they are both probably as capable as each other, swb is better over hump lwb is better on steep inclines, turning is not that much different and ride quality is heaps heaps better on the lwb (even off road) the swb feels like it has no suspension. they both have there positives and negitives. I would just get a lwb as they are cheaper and have more space, you could always reduce the length i am sure

And my rig is 110"
110" is this between the wheels, also whats involved in lengthening the wheel base do you extend the chasis or just move your spring mounts back etc

MWB being roughly what exactly? I would have thought anywhere between 100" and 110"? BTW whats the WB on a shorty GQ?
Range Rover - 4.4 V8, MD Crawler Box, F&R Lockers, 35" Centipedes, 4" lift. Overqualified WebWheeler!!!

SWB is 96", we are doing a MWB at 104" using a SWB and moving the springs ect inc the panels ( wheel arch, inner wheel arch and outer panel). We can go further back but only in a tray style. This also includes an ( A ) frame rear end. You will see a few kicking around in comps soon as we have been doing a few big name rigs.
Front can be moved forward also giving a better approach and a longer wheel base, but remember your rampover and turning circle.
104" MWB, 4" lift, no body lift and hi-crossmember is pretty hard to beat.

Have been driving my SWB GQ for last 3 months after having a LWB GQ for last 5 years. Both cars are setup the same lift/tyres etc. Good and bad in both, just depends on what you are gonna use it for. Main
difference is rougher ride, less space and the pucka factor on hill climbs in the shorty. When you get stuck on a steep hill in a SWB, you can't give it heaps to get up like the LWB or you spend a bit of time on the back wheels. Good points for the shorty are better power/weight, better in the tight stuff, better ramp over, much less body to dent.
