was wondering how to make my 31 fit onto the rear tyre carrier on a sierra. what have others done?
1999 SQ625 Manual Grand Vitara. Lifted, Twin Locked, 31' Extremes, dual Batteries, Winch.

mine wont fit at all. Studs dont even make it into rim. tyres are 31x10.5R15 on sunraiser rims. is currently tied to roll bar but when i put rear seat in i got nowhere for it

mine hits the bumper, i removed the three rubbers and also packed out the bottom bolts on the carrier to swing it up and away from the bumper enough, i also put a wheel spacer behind the rim. i've got 31x10.5 on 6.5" alloys with 4" backspacing
oh and the coily wheel hanger is longer than the leafy ones as the backspacing of the rims is greater. so if you have a leafy just grab a coily hanger and you'll solve all your probs

clearance is not a problem on the rear but tyres do rub on back of the front leaves on full lock.
So how much further out does a coily sit and does it mount on to the rear soft top door the same??

I heard that coily's had different offset on the rims, this could affect they way the spare mounts but as the mount on the tailgate is identical.
Perhaps a different rim for your spare?? I have a few different ones to choose from

the coily mount sticks out further to account for the 15mm greater offset

Heres an idea .. Should be able to keep the cost under $20 ..
Pull your spare tyre carrier off .. Take one of your wheel nuts down the the local Repco\Supercheap\bolt shop and get 3 longer bolts with the same thread as your wheel nut .. buy 3 nuts to fit longer bolts.
Go home knock the studs outa your spare wheel carrier and put your 3 long bolts in their place .. use some washers under the lock nuts to space the tyre further out from the bodywork ..
Bolt your spare tyre back on
Your done ..

the thread is a Metric 12 fine or M12 x 1.25

Cut em off and drill some holes, they are gonna be tossed anyway. What have you got to loose ??
I honestly would not bother with running a spare. Carry some tyre plugs and a half decent compressor and you will fix most punctures anyways.. And when you go wheeling make sure a friend has a spare
