Surf Chain Drive Transfere Flange Question

Post by Surfin Alec »

After giving the Surf a 4" spring lift I am getting a bad vibration in the tail shaft. I have tried to pack the x-member down 15mm and that stopped a lot of the vibe but not all. If I pack the box down any more the 4x4 lever starts to hit the console inside and I just dont want to lower it any more.
So, I got a double cardin shaft made up but when I went to bolt it in the cardin joint bolts to a larger flange than the original. Centres are 70 x 60mm instead of the original 60 x 60mm. I thought of re-drilling the flange but the original is too small.
My question is does any one know if I can bolt a larger cardin joint flange like the one on the front output to the rear output? Are the splines the same etc??
I am trying to avoid pulling both shafts and flanges apart if possible.

Cheers,

Alec

Went through this exact same problem  There's no where near as much space to play with as in your pic 4sum, fark all to be exact !!. I drilled mine out as it was the morning of a trail run and then tack welded it on where it was drilled out for a bit more strength.... would have sucked arse if i needed to pull the shaft out on the train though !!
I don't have many suggestions for you alec, except maybe talk to sam about spinning you up an adaptor out of alloy or whatever you can bolt in between the two flanges.

Bugger, I really dont want to put an adapter in as that is going to shorten the shaft length even more. I was really hoping that someone would say that the 2 flanges on the transfere are interchangable.
Man I wish that there was enough space to re drill the flange as 4sums pic shows. I rekon the holes would be exactly on the edge of the flange if not just busting through.

Down to Sam's I go.....
