Feroza/Rocky Diffs

Post by Dangerous Dave »

Ok,

I need help. I need replies to be accurate.

Question 1:Are the rear diffs in Feroza's the same width as the rear Rocky ones?

Question 2: Are the front and rear diffs in rockys the same width as each other?

Question 3: Does anyone have a rocky manual on the net as Murcod has a feroza one?

Question 4: Does anyone have a rough going price for Rocky motor, gearbox, transfercase, driveshafts and diffs?

Thanks
Cheers

Rick has got the Rocky manual online somewhere.... Rick are you still around???

I've got it on CD.

I think the Rockys are like the Ferozas- the early ones were a narrower track, the later ones have the wide flares like the widetrack Ferozas.

BTW Dave, why would you want to swap to Rocky running gear? You still can't get lockers or anything to suit....

My engine is making a nasty main bearing knock when its cold. I'm not totally convinced that it is the main bearings but i'm pretty sure. So if i have to do and engine in it why not do something a little different!

Could you imagine the rocky motor and running gear in a feroza! I recon it would have to be unstoppable!

I don't know though at the end of the day it all comes down to cost. By the way i have found a place in NSW that does suspension kits for both rocky's and feroza's. Check it out:http://www.climaxsuspension.com/suspk.html

The place looks like they're just repackaging other company's products to me? eg. the shocks in the pic are Ranchos; the springs could be made by anyone... One of their pages mentions Ironman who do make springs for the Feroza.

So are you looking at the diesel turbo Rocky drive train? The petrol engine would be a big step backwards IMHO.

Have you considered buying a rolled Rocky.......body damage only and transplanting your Feroza body onto it ??

This would work out a lot cheaper for you in the long run..........no fabricating of new mounts for engine, gearbox, t-case, diffs......all you would have to do is to make the body fit, ensure tunnel is wide enough, sticks fit through hole....etc.

Just a thought

Yeah, but then it'd be a rocky with a feroza body. I want a Feroza with a rocky motor. I gotta get the rocky manual asap. Although the rolled rocky would be a good idea for the transplant. Cheers. Do you know if they pop up often.

Cheers

I tracked down where Rick has posted the F70/ F75 / F77 manual.
He asked in the forum not to post the url any where so as not to crash the server.
Out of respect for his wishes I will e-mail you the link.
I really appreciate Rick's efforts and hope his generosity dosn't get abused
Big ups Rick!

Thanks guys,

Murcod, what i'm hoping to do is fit a Rocky Turbo Diesel into the feroza. Hopefully running the existing Feroza diffs but just customise the drive shafts. If This isn't possible then i'm gonna try to Put the rocky front into the Feroza along with the rocky rear.

This is why i need the rocky manual for the measurments. Big thanks to you UXB. And BundyRumandCoke i will check out your other post now.

Cheers

Dave........it sounds like you have an endless supply of $$CASH$$, 'cause all these thoughts you're havin'..............well......lets just say it would be easier and cheaper to buy a deisel vehicle and sell the Feroza !!

Why worry 'bout the Engineers Cert, Engine, g'box, diffs........modifying everything.......if anything broke, you couldn't buy an off-the-shelf item.........

Running a Rocky motor with Feroza diffs is asking for trouble, IMHO. Rocky diffs are 3.36 - 1 where the Feroza diffs are round the 5.? - 1, so your motor would be screaming its tits off, and getting you nowhere.

Bundyrumandcoke and Ferozius,

This is the exact reason i'm asking these questions to find out this information on diff ratio's etc and also people thoughts on the mattter. I have never heard of this being done before and that fact alone made me think that it wasn't to be. Ah well the dream was good while it lasted!

Was the applause/feroza 1600cc motor the biggest petrol motor that daihatsu made for their cars??

I can't sell the feroza just yet its under fianance and i still owe too much on it as when i bought it i got raped with the price. But i had tunnel vision at the time!

Besides, the feroza rocks!

Cheers again
