I'm building a sierra as we speak and am undecided on drivetrain. I have the following components:
1.0ltr sierra body chassis (to be extended) and standard 1.0ltr drive train. 1.6 vitara drivetrain, MQ patrol diffs (4.6). looking at 35 inch tyres.
I see that i have two options
1. Vitara motor, gearbox, transfer case, sierra transfer case and MQ diffs
2. Vitara motor, sierra gearbox, sierra transfer case with rock hoppers, MQ diffs
Some say that even with the dual transfers the gearing will still not be low enough and that the sierra gearbox and transfer with hoppers would be better. The sierra set up would also allow for a full length tail shaft.
Any ideas?

Be daring .. do something like a VG30ETT (300Zx fairlady motor) with a pusfinder gearbox and a patrol T\Case with rockhopper gears in it .. Light, strong and plenty of powa ..

With the gearing of duals+rock hopper I think you would have no drama turning 37's

My experience with those motors tells me they are pretty crappy and slow.
With the double tcase option would that mean you have a greater pinion angle because it takes more room up under the car?
If you have choosen your tire size as 35's, then I say go with the S3 sierra tcase.

thinking of only one transfer as this will retain tailshaft length.
This would mean that i can look at coil overs next year with less work to do the conversion.

But with coilovers you could say goodbye to the end of your chassis after the seats, making extra wheel base & duals less hassle

Try vit motor sierra gearbox and transfer
You can get more than enough gearing reduction with this setup to run 37's

That's why a near stock one was driven to 4th place in Targa Tassie a couple of years back against turbo porsches is it?
The twin turbo is an awesome piece of kit, but personally I wouldnt recommend one because:
1 They are very tempermental
2 They are very expensive
3 They are massively wide and heavy.
It would be easier to fit a chev 350 under your bonnet.
A single turbo VG20 or even the NA VG30DE would be a good option though, or even the pusfinder 2.4 with a nice big blower off it.
