who runs simex centipedes?

well, who runs the centepedes?
this has probably been asked a million times before. and yes, i did do a search.

how do they go? what are they like? how much are they?

tyre in question: simex centepede 31x10.5R15

i see a few on sierras and rovers and hiluxes and that. i think germo has some 31 pedes.

anyway, reason i'm asking is that i might be getting some fitted to my swb vitara.

the 31s look real big for a 31, is this so?

does anyone else think i should be getting something else other than the pedes?

i've got mongrels which are the simex copy in 32x10.5

i hope you dont plan to run em on the road, cause they're noisy as fark, and dont handle real flash in the wet. my mongrels are also a very heavy tyre (dunno how they compare to the real simex?) but i think the weight is part of the reason why i'm going through cv's so quickly (my mongrels weigh more than a 33x12.5 tyre)

that said, they work awesome in the mud, on the beach, and they're not bad on rocks

I have 31" centipedes on my hilux. Have only had them for about 3000 klms though. They seem very good though get me a lot further than the old AT's. They are noisy on my mates car but he is running them the opposite way to me, but I find that mine aren't all that noisy. He has the picture of the centipede facing outwards so you can see it, mine is facing inwards so you can't see it. My hilux is also a diesel and a lot noisier than his petrol under normal driving conditions.

We got our centipedes from Ace Tyres in BrisVegas (3390 4148) for $165 each. Most other places were around the $200 mark.

31" 'pedes for $165? Are you sure???? Sounds like you got Mongrels. The 31" Simex 'Pedes measure closer to a 33", it even says so in their specs.

Basically what Damo said, doubt the under 200 price, for that kinda money I'd drive up personally to pick up a set.

Similarly, I've measured Germo's set and they're just over 32" mounted on the vehicle.

Would I have a set for 4wd, hell yeah!!! next time you go to a 4wd comp, look at all the competitors and check out what they're using..........The majority are simex.

Not really good for every day driving though for the reasons listed above.

There is the "Extreme trekker Centipede" ( http://www.specialist-leisure.co.uk/simex/trekker.htm ) more like a swamper tread with huge lugs etc and there is also a normal Centipede, more like a BFG MT or MTR type tread pattern ..

The Centipede MT should also be available in a 235/75R15 & 33x12.50R15 later in the year.

ok, so there is a MT radial that simex produce, and is nothing like the competition ET.

and it seems as though a lot of people know that the ETs are an extremely good tyre.

so how about the MT radial? what do people think of that? does anyone run these, or had any experience? they are a cheap MT, and also very agressive in tread pattern. (more so compared to other brands such as buck shots etc.)

they are a good price, but how do they hold up? someone said to me that its very average, and no lugs on sidewall, and thin sidewalls also.

would i be better off with good years MTRs? i can get the GY for just under $200 up here, in a 30".

A guy I know Eddy, runs 32" peids on his zook and loves them, the only problem is having so much traction he haz snapped cv's and trans case mounts a few times

a couple of nights ago a mate and i decided to go and have a go at some of the clay tracks at the back of our town. its been raininy for most of the week.
My 32" mongreled zook could get up this one hill
his hilux with 33"mtrs could not

We both have locked rear diffs

the other advantage of mongrels is the increased reflex reaction time you get by "training" .... try driving these on slick wet roads for a few days and you will understand what I mean.:shock::shock:

They cost $200 fitted and balanced. RRP is $198 I think.
Not that they needed much balancing most of them only required 1 x 10g weight.

One other bit of info .... they are directional & speed limited to 120km/h

thats ok, speed limits are the last thing on my mind, as my suzi will inly ever reach a top speed of about 100km/h, 110 going down hill, and maybe another 10 more km/h if there's a strong tail wind.

I find them very good for the price ($160) very grippy, also feel good in the wet (on road), Iam happy with them so far

Yeah i am running them as well and think they are really good value for money, grip really good, not to noisy, seem to be wearing good and are absolutely unreal on wet roads, I cant even make them lose traction when hooking it around roundabouts andf trying to get them sliding. Highly reccommend. But they only measure about 30.5 not a true 31.

There was quiet a long thread over on thew 4wd monthly forum about these and it was all good news, everybody loved them.

I would agree, good off road, acceptable on road, and thank god I am a bit deaf
