just a few questions,great if i could get a bit of advice.I can't afford to buy a set of new mud tyres so i'm going to get some re-treads, which i've used before and lasted pretty well.the cheapest i've been quoted is $105 for a 31" re-tread, and $55 per sunraysia to suit.just wondering if any other makes of fourby have the same 6 stud pattern as my standard '83 pajero so i can keep a look out for some second hand wheels.I'm currently running 205r16's, what is a good size rim to fit the 31's without going too wide?? 15x8??
just one more question,anyone have any idea what would be clunking underneath quite loudly, only when i accelerate hard in first or second or accelerating up hills. i thought it may have been to uni joints as they were worn, but i replaced those and it still does it. could it be my exhaust? i'm lost....

31x10.5s are effectively the same width as the 265/70 tyres which came standard on many Pajeros. Ex factory the 265/70s were normally on 15x7" rims, so I'd be looking for that size.
Most Toyotas and Nissans have the same stud pattern as the Pajero - anything to suit 'Cruiser, HiLux, Patrol, Navara should fit, along with L200/Triton/L300/Delica rims. Even early Pajeros had white steel wheels which should do the trick. If you call around the wreckers most should be able to tell you if they have anything that will fit - they want to sell you something!
As for the noise, check your engine mounts. If (the passenger side?) one is broken it can allow the engine to rock under high torque loads (low gear/hard acceleration/steep hills) which may be allowing something to knock. Hold onto your gear stick when the noise is happening - if it seems to be moving a lot that would be a sure sign this is what's happening.

Early pajeros being the box shape are 15x6. They would suit although you would experience a bit of bagging. I swapped my set of unwanted sunraysias (15x7) with chrome rims off a MWB cruiser which are the same stud pattern.
