thats a good point saying that fraser is tooo expensive for just the weekend.. ive only ever gone to moreton, never been to fraser.
and it will be my g/f first time really camping...so might take her to see the dolphins at tangalooma one night
antt
tell me about your trip from the 10-17th ??? how many are going where u staying want one more etc ???

Fraser is fine, I got a relative who owns a house at Happy Valley free accommodation
If you are trying to gain copious amounts of ass kissing and unimaginable offers of free beer/bourbon etc you are going about it the right way!!!!!!!
If you are just trying to piss everyone off by gloating about free accommodation on fraser and make us all jealous. You sir can get FUCT! (joking to btw)

although it's been a while since I was there last and a sand dune was slowly taking over their land, probably not too long b4 the house gets eaten by sand
I'm willing to put some labour into a dune stabilisation program* in exchange for free accommodation on Fraser.
Can we negotiate?

in regards to fraser, anybody know the condition of the rocks at rainbow? can u gt around them easily at lowish tide? last time i was up fraser/rainbow way there was a mile of beach round the rocks. going to fraser in the last week of the uni holidays for 5 days of intense drinking and fishing. if the weather satys like it is now it will be sweet.
I was at Rainbow on Queens Birthday long weekend, and you could get round the rocks fine, but unless your driving the beach the whole way from from the sunny coast(Noosa) and through Double Island, the rocks are no real concern. If you come via the hi-way through Gympie get on to the Gympie/Rainbow Beach Rd it's pretty much bitumen the whole way to Inskip Point where you catch the barges from. If you do drive the beach the whole way just cut through Freashwater track if the tides aren't in your favour...
BTW..
Morton Island isn't even in Fraser Island's league. I've camped there more times then I can remember(live 20mins away from Hervey Bay) and whether you camp in the rain forests(central station), the beach or even up at Sandy Cape(if you can get there!!) it changes and gets better every time. Thats my opinion anyway...

The rocks at Rainbow are irrelevant........if it does look a bit dodgy and you don't want to end up sailing a four wheel canoe, the Freshwater Track will take you from the beach to Rainbow Beach with no risk of becoming entertainment for the locals, who watch, on average, one car (goose) per week sink his vehicle trying to get around the rocks.
Fraser is beautiful, but you'd want to spending at least a week there to make the drive to and from worth. As stated previously, there is alot more diversity in terms of thing to see on Fraser, but you spend alot of time driving to them and they discourage driving on the beach outside of two hours either side of low tide. Barge at Inskip costs $50-80 rtn + barge across Noosa River at Tewantin, which cost I cannot recall.
Moreton is a good place to go to relax and is far less civilised than Fraser. There aren't as many places to go, but what's there, you can get to in far less time. The off putting thing about Moreton is the cost of the barge. I always leave from Scarborough (Combie Trader) as its two minutes down the road, but its just gone up to $170 return inc. 4 adults and necessary permits, so this makes for an expensive weekend away. For weekends, bookings are essential and mid week, there's no barge on Tuesdays.

rocks at rainbow
Like was said previously about the rocks at rainbow if you dont want to end up as the laughing stock of the day and have your photo put up on the wall at the pub then take the freshwater track, so its a bit longer but who cares cuz your car wont end up being skull dragged out of the water with everyone pointing and laughing at your pride and joy. But hey if you wanna risk it go for it, Ive been up there quite a few times and i wont go around those rocks, just not worth the hassle
If it were me I would go to Double Island for the weekend its got most things the other places have and it costs far less and is just as beautiful. Was up there on the Queens Bday Long weekend and had whales breaching about 100-200m out the front of our camp aswell as 2 pods of dolphins swim past was a great weekend.
