hi guys..
been offered some landcrusier wheels and tyres for my truck. i have 31 x 10.5 R15 on at the moment, but i doubt they will pass RWC as they are split and chipped badly.
the tyre/wheels i have been offered are 7.5 R16 on split rims.
couple of questions.. i know nothing about tyres.. so
are the split rims any good? worth keeping?
whats the difference in size of tyre to what i have now?. i dont know how to read the sizes.. (yeah, i know i should) these are in good nick with over 50% tread left.... $50 each.
The old 7.50R16 (standard size tyre on 75 series cruisers) means 7.5" tread width, 7.5" tyre wall height, on a 16" rim. Very close to the 235/85R16 which are about 32" diameter.
Therefore they are slightly larger than your 31's but heaps narrower.
As for the split rims they are excellant bush rims as they make tyre removal and installation really easy. They are only 6.5" wide which restricts what width tyre you are able to fit on them. You can usually pick old split rims up for about $10-$20 each from wreckers so are cheap as chips but look like crap.
Hope any of this helps you out

if you ever do have to change a tyre. never trust the lock ring when 'airing up' as they have been known to fly off, many people have been killed this way. always place the lock ring facing a tree or under your axle (if no trees available)
thanks for all that guys..
so, would you recomend them for on/off road over the size and style that i have?..
should i leave them and look for some other tyres of the same size i have now?
im not likely to be ripping tyres off in the bush... ill be changing the whole wheel. plus the current size and style is the same as my mates that i go out with that also carry a spare of the same. maybe this is the deciding factor.
safety first!!
well thats what they say.
personally i'd go a bigger and more agressive tyre but if your mates got the same size tyres as u it would b the smarter choice to stick with that incase u forget ur spare u can always borrow his.
my mate and i wait til we can both can afford bigger tyres before we get it just for thast reason, it works out cheaper havin 1 spare between us.
