the R151F gearbox in turbo diesel bunderas is far stronger than the G52 and has better (lower) 1st/2nd ratios. This gearbox is also installed in current 105 series diesels (with triple synchros and a few other refinements) and will stand up pretty well to V8 power.
on the other hand, the auto will protect the weak 8" rear diff in the bundera a bit better if you go V8 - but even the stock motors have sufficient balls to break the diffs so it's pretty easy with a V8.
I can vouch for the diff opinion.... have rebuilt mine once already.... stripped the pinion gear.... Don't know how much punishment it had before I purchased it though.... It's been going strong ever since....
Id go the Bundy I love em. I bought the one from dumbdunce and it is great I have been out in the forestry near my place and have come across a few dirt bikes who were quite shocked to see me couldnt believe I had got there. But love it. I have another one which I am fixing up to get rid of.

airflow makes (or made) snorkels for bunderas.
at standard height the suspension does not articulate well - if moderate lift is tempered with wider tyres and better offset rims (or spacers) there is no more risk of rolling than with a standard height.

I don't think they did. the latest bundys available here for local market, 1991/2, certainly didn't. and I'm pretty sure that even the KZJ70's available recently in other markets still had drum rear.
By using the 80 series spring to give you the 4inch lift, what sort of springs were they? (standard or lifted 80s??)
Also what did you use for the rear disk brake set up??

in the front I used ordinary stocker GXL 80 springs, in the rear I think they were Pedder's standard height springs but they are a bit taller than the stock ones.
for the rear disks I used GQ rotors with Subaru front calipers, from about 1985- 88 I think - from a touring wagon or brumby with the vented calipers. the handbrake is in the disk caliper. I custom made the bracksts from 8mm plate, the existing axle retaining bolts are just long enough with the drum brake backing plate removed. the Bias was pretty ordinary but with the lift making the truck "think" it had no weight in the back it was acceptable.
Hey im currently looking into gettin a hilux or bundera,i was just wondering seeing as thought the bundera runs hilux axels does this mean it also runs th G52 g-box??...is it possible to run the x-over steer and also i was wondering can u fit the marlin crawler 2nd transfer adapter and fit a second transfer case ...any help will be appreciated..thnx Shaun

i think the options to lower gearing are pretty limited for the bunderas. PM dumbdunce or maybe talk to Marks.
thnx mate yeah i was just wonderin if u can tell me wat g-box is in the bundy's because i think if theres enuff room and its the G52 i can fit the crawler and rock hoppers

diesel bunderas have pretty good gearing from standard, with a 48:1 crawl ratio. you can change out the transfer gears with marks gears to get about 65:1 crawl ratio which is slow enough to turn 35's on most stuff without slipping the clutch too much.
crossover steering is standard on bunderas but the tierod runs behind the axle under the differential, so you're not running it into rocks all the time. the standard draglink is weak and vulnerable so if you're going to offroad it hard upgrade it to a 1990+ bundera draglink (need to shorten it 30mm) or look into getting something custom made. you will bend the stocker, no questions.
the diesel gearbox is the R151F which is currently installed in 105 series diesels, it stands up to a fair bit of punishment.

no you can't fit marlin crawler style dual transfers (see private message) - the rear tailshaft is already too short.
a bundera does not make a good basis for a hardcore rock crawler, the sheelbase is too short (it will go end over end very easily) and the body is too tall even if you get a soft top, the limited length means you are very limited in what transmission mods you can make. the suspension does not lend itself well to lift and good articulation , you need to rip out both front and rear setups and build a 3-link A frame setup in the rear and a 5 link in the front - to do these properly in a bundy really requires some body-off time to allow good access for all the required welding. a hilux is a better starting place for a rockcrawler. in fact anything except a bundera is a good place to start for a rockcrawler - patrol, zook, lux etc.
