Holden Adventra/Cross 8

Post by Westoztroopa »

So anyone have an opinion or first hand experience with these yet? Noticed that 4wd Monthly just bagged the hell out of them - quite funny actually. It seems amazing that Holden is actually marketing these things as legitimate offroad vehicles. I think that this may bite Holden in the bum in the end when people realise that they cant do what is promoted in the commercials.

I think if they are used as intended they will be a good thing. The marketing hype is nothing different from all car makers. Toyota still think the Cruiser is King of the road!!! :finger:

Why do 4wd Monthly test these softroaders when all they do is bag them???
Better to use the mag space for something better. Of corse an X5, Audi, Benz, Volvo isn't going to have the ground clearence and wheel travel of a 6" lift Patrol with 38" swampers.........
09 Cruiser Tray ARB Bull Bar/side bars, dual batts, 3" Superiour lift, MTZs, other stuff. More to come!!!
90 Sierra Soft top, 3" body 2" spring lift, 31" Claws, 5.14 Calmini, more to do.

Work for holden, and agree with what the mag said, pretty good on the road, but thats where they should stay. Tried to ramp one up in the workshop but got nothing ,and the trac control didnt work either, just spin wheels. THough on the road they are good, nice to drive and all. Have not had any trouble with them either so far.

Its all about education. Consumers need to know what these vehicles actually can and cant do. Misleading marketing and advertising does not help the cause.

Dont get me wrong, I am sure they are a great vehicle for onroad and I personally would not mind owning one but at the moment Holden seems to think that the Adventra can completely fill the void recently made vacant by the departing Jackaroo (However small that void may be, it was never a big seller). But as you know it can never compete with the Jackaroo offroad.

Noel, don't forget the Frontera. I actually thought that they bumped that out of the way for the local product. I mean "Adventur..A" for the "Fronter..A". They obviously saw the success of this fine vehicle and thought they could clone it using the only thing they had, a Commodore shell. Geez.. strap the spare on the rear and give it some lift. 0X It was a conspiracy I tell you!!

Oops, sorry Wayne. :) The Frontera also deserved a meantion in my comment too as being replaced.

I see what you're saying about the naming but I'm sure they would've done much better by calling it Adventuroo! :D

Hehe, good call!

the way i see it..... the Adventra is no different to any other soft roader, just a shiite load more grunt.... Holden may have advertised it a little wrongly... but you would probably get them any place you would get a Kluger or any other half baked fourby getting around on the market..... i know if i wanted to have a hoon along some dirt roads, i'd take the Adventra over a WRX any day :D

Lets face it boys,HOLDEN have never been that bright when promoting their 4X4's.
Just look at the mess they made with our beloved JACKAROO!!!! :x
The worlds most underated 4x4.

As for 4WD MONTHLY,well they are just a bunch of cowboys! :x
Just look at how they tested the X5,Porche Ceyanne(F###ED if I know how to spell it?)
These vehicles are obviously built for added safety IE better traction in slippery conditions ETC,NOT for the places they have taken them!
I think from memory they drove a 911 to Cape York!!
WHAT THA?? :?

i think 4wd monthly is a good mag for modified 4bys and new parts. but to there comparos and new car reviews :2gunfire: :finger: . Yes they might be "THE BEST" but they take the new car reviews to far like launching a porche.... i would like to drive a porche, rather than fly it  .......

I think the reason that 4WD Monthly test these things off-road is the fact that they are advertised as off-road vehicles and therefore, even knowing they are NOT capable fourbys, do the test anyhow just to prove a point. Personally, i would rather see proper 4WDs tested and leave the soft-roaders for the other mags.

RoeDao, You have A very valid point. They ARE advertised as "off road" so i suppose that 4wd monthly has a point for taking them off road. But i doubt that i would ever take a 70 K (out of the show room) 4x4ing to the limits they push the test cars

WOULD BE FUNNY TO SEE WEN THE RETURN THE TEST CARS   bit like off jackass the movie

if you havn't noticed holden never advertised it as an offroader it is clear that they advertise it as being able to navigate most roads in australia, like the outback dirt roads and the many driving beaches, they are meant for making trips into the outback and to the driving beaches more accessable for people who mainly live in the city and don't need a real 4x4. They are awesome foor hooning around the winding dirt roads often found in australia and provide a nicer ride than hooning in the dirt roads in a wrx
