yeah moose it is a twincam ,the reason i dont want to go the 1.6 bottom end yet is because the motor has done low kms, and will be a straight bolt in..but that could change..

1.6 big block

Post by toysuzi »

hello bazooked

if you want more inches stroke it

machine your block fit G16B crank shaft
bore cylinder out 40 tho/1mm oversize fit overdize pistons (gti)
========1590cc bottom end :lol:

cheaper insurance & no engeer/ticket needed + dont have to weld bellhousing or use vit trans etc

you could always fit a bigger flywheel (increase weight)
it will bring the peak hp down in the rpm range
but the side effect would be slower reving engine
(a bit slower to hit red line)

maybe fit 4x4 vit flywheel instead of using gti flywheel

hope that may help you out

GTI Motor - Zook Specialist to talk to

Post by Mczook »

G'day Bazooked

The GTI is a great motor don’t go changing anything. I drove a mates GTI zook with 32s and fell in luv straight away and it had no reduction gears until recently. So when I did the research on my conversion I spoke to many zook performance specialists and in the end they all agreed the GTI is a strong motor and if tuned correctly if will produce the goods where and when you want it.

A guy with loads of knowledge on GTI’s is Mark Yaga of Yaga performance (NSW north coast). He has been racing and building GTI motors for over 10years. You can also talk to Rod Reardon at the One Stop Suzi Shop, if he can’t help you out he knows several people in the performance business who can. Sam Keck at Overkill will also help you out. . And last not least talk or if you can get hold of him Paul Pisani, you maybe able to contact him through Matt at M&M Custom 4x4 Engineering.

My GTI setup is not fully finished but it is running a Garrett T28 BB turbo with 33claws and Spidertrax (Calmini) 5.14:1 Rockcrawler gears (126%low range & 18% high range).

If I find Marks Yaga’s number I will PM otherwise try directories or speak to any of the others mentioned.

Cheers

I,d be very imprresed to see The g16 crank in a g13 block ,

Do you know the difference between the two blocks , which rods does the guy use , can,t use the g16 rods your pistons will 25mm or so posative deck hieght , use the g13 rods you,ll have to machine the shiid out of the sides of the piston so they clear the counter wieghts on the crank and then they,ll still have a positive deck hieght of about 10mm

To get this setup running would involve a lot more than just machining the block to pass the g16 counters , eg - pistons with a higher pin hieght machinging the sides of those pistons to miss counter wieghts then
re balancing the whole rocip to match your custom pistons with hardly any side skirt ,
