tried ordering glowplugs and a clutch slave from the local parts guru, usually he can get anything for any car.

asked what year the hj45 was, as there are 6,8,12,and 24 volt glowplugs specified for different years (1st warning bell)

told him 1980, he's like, so it's a hj47 with a 2H?, me: no it's a 45 with a H

inpossible i'm told, hj45's finished production in 1977 (why does mine have a post 1979 bezel, and no under seat fuel tank, with the updated floor design?)

so he said check the VIN, VIN didn't have a production date, my compliance plate did, 6/80.

apparently the clutch slave is the same drama, but i thought that all 4 speeds took the same clutch slave (at least all the 4 speeds behind 6 cylinders)

can someone here help clear this up, i need glowies before my snow trip

i got some glow plugs for my HJ 45 this arvo and they were the same as a Dyna truck with a H diesel in it. From memory i think the glow plugs run at 8.5 volts but the rest of the car is 12 volts. Hope it is some help to you. We had the fun sorting through all the parts books today

You are right HJ45 ran until of 1980. HJ47 began around Nov 80. My HJ45 is 11/79 and I got recently got some new plugs too, seem like a common problem. Like mentioned previously, from memory they were classed as 8 point something volt unit. Got Bosch units myself, didn't really have any dramas getting them, both Coventry's and Repco had stock. Got them for under 20 bucks a pop.
I'll check tommorow for part numbers if you need them.

this really scared me, as the parts guy is knowlegable as hell usually, so i felt bad telling him he's wrong.

so 8.5 volts is the way eh?

strange, offroad shop cataloge shows them as 12 volt, 8.5W...

you guys get 8.5 volt or 8.5 watt?

8.5 Volts sound correct. By the time you take into account the volt drop through the loom plus the fact the plugs drag down the battery's voltage quite a lot, then you may find that not much more than 8 or 9 volts actually getting to the glow plug, even though they are connected in parallel to a 12V source.
I've tested the circuit current and from memory it was around 50-60 Amps which makes them somewhere around 100W each.

Found the empty Bosch boxes in my glove box of my 79 HJ45. For future reference they were part number Bosch GPT 208
