MK Turbo Diesel Upgrades
MK Turbo Diesel Upgrades
Just wanted to know what sort of upgrades i could do on a 3.2LT (i think?) turbo deisel. Its in a 1986 Model Patrol Wagon, with about 240,000kms on it, and a 5 speed.
Also curious as to how lift kits are done on leaf suspension setups.
Cheers,
Coxy

concider this:
IF u have all the parts.
All u r doing is undoing 8 bolts, putting blocks in and 8 new bolts and doing them up.
You have to adjust ur fuel filler ( 2 hose clamps ) and undo 1 bolt on the steering column.
If u have no dramas u can do it in an hour if u have the right jack.
Take ya an arvo if you r unsure and take ur time to make the final adjustments after the lift.
screwy

turbo diesel
With my turbo diesel I have ran a 3" exhaust with only a resonator, run a intercooler ,off a mazda rotary, ran above the air cleaner, (requires a 2" body lift). Finer filter, No pre cleaner, Snorkel, running 10lb boost, Running the pyrometer up to 600 deg celcius on the dyno but only ever drive it to 500 or maybe 550deg for a short period on the road. Puts out 70KW at the wheels running 35" pro-comps. Just about to change the diff ratios from 4.3 to 4.6 which should lift the output a little. I think they only put out 49 KW as standard so 21 KW increase is good without over doing it on the motor. Mine has done 330000ks.
Pyrometers can measure the temp anywhere, usually exhaust gasses, as in if you run too much fuel on a diesel it will get hot.
blow off valves aren't neccesary as most diesels don't have throttle butterflys - just an open intake, the throttle is controlled by the injector pump, just varies the amount of fuel depending on throttle position, or vacuum for the few that do have butterflys.

There are no stupid questions, but there are a LOT of inquisitive idiots
go for 3-inch
I built a 3-inch system for my 3.3td, and both turbo kick-in and boost-top came 200-400 rpm earlier.
Originally it charged .45 kg/cm2, but now, without any other mod's it can charge up to .55 kg/cm2 on hig revs.
Can't wait to adjust the waste-gate and maybe even modify an intercooler!
At http://www.outerlimits4x4.com/PHP_Modul ... hp?t=17281 i've got a few pictures of my system showing how i built it.
BTW,hee's a picture of a volvo fh12 intercooler modified to fit in an mk. it fits in front of the radiator which is moved back 3 cm. Belongs to a friend of mine, unfortunately he thrashed his crankshaft a week or two ago. Up running with new (used) crank two nights later...
