What are the best shocks to use on lifted SWB GQ
The question I have is what are the best shocks to use on a SWB GQ with winchbar, winch, dual batteries in front end sitting on 3" King springs.
I have had Rancho 9000 shocks on it for 10 months and they are now stuffed.
Driving mainly club trips and a couple of comps> I have done a few hard tracks, but not a lot more.

I've seen a few with Koni ajustable... in which case they have seemed to outlast Ranchos. Or even try Toughdogs, but don't go enforcer... you'll be sorry

I'd say go the tough dog ralphs also. Just put these in my 80 with 6/7" lift and handles excellent even without sway bars. virtually no body roll @ all.
Have had 2 mates with patrols with 6" kits and ranchos in, both commented on how much better mine was on road. One has already ordered t d ralphs and the other is thinking about doing the same.
The mate that has ordered them has them in the back only as the front ones arent in stock and has said that just putting them in the back has changed the cars handling on road alot, and for the better.
Just my thoughts and experience. Tought dogs ralphs seem worth the extra money for a coil rig with a big lift .

Shocks
A couple of guys in Newy have recommended the new tough dog adjustables, but I have heard there is a recall on them as their were complaints that the settings were too hard. I was told they will now be valved similar to the Ranchos.

that would NOT be hard...
I got the fat assed tough dog adjustable shocks from the BBoffroad 4" kit on my shorty. They seem tough (something so big I would imagine would be) and ride well depending on the setting. Hard is quite hard indeed. Drives better than when I had the thing on standard shocks/coils..
Few mods need to happen ie; bumpstop contacts get the angle grinder treatment.
I had issues with them when rotating my pinion angle into my double Card shaft.... and damned shock mount need rotating... Grrr.... Well they would of anyway but they need rotating sooner... if you get me ? Because of the girth of the damned things
They don't quite fit on the lower shock mounts, because you have to fit a spacer so they wont contact your diff housing. Consequently the nut the holds the shock looks as though it may well come loose... But it hasn't and it has been 6 months now and quite a few trips have been had..
Interestingly I ordered the ranchos and got given these instead. I later found out this was a much better deal.... aboot 40 dollars a shock. Besides I had to wait 3 months after I had forked over the money to get the sh$t... But in the end works out well...
However the gear in the F.A.T suspension binskins 4wd (which is under new management tooo.....) use/sell and recommend is procomp stuff.
Glenns Orange SWB/UTE thingo which used to be Blue Softop (*mmmmm) had the same procomp gear underneath it for 2 outback challenges and are still on the vehicle. To me that says something about longevity... I mean adjustability is a groovy thing but really is a wank factor. I do wack mine on soft If I am playing in rocks though so it gets used...
